Scouting mission

Scouting mission

Postby petenorc57 » Tue Jul 18, 2017 8:31 pm

Hi all,

Please be gentle with me/us as its my 1st post , we are planning to retire to Spain in the next 2-3 years , depending on children / grandchildren situations. We spent a week in Los Alcazares in April and was very impressed with the town and surrounding areas. We visited Porto Mazzaron , Torrevieja , Villamartin and Pueblo Latino . Some were OK some were not , so in Jan we are staying in Formentera , were some friends live . Plan to visit Quesada , Benijofor areas this time , have been an avid reader of this forum since April and have picked up many tips etc . Lots of people have stated that renting first is a good idea so we plan to do that , I think , as its a while off before we make the move was just wondering if, you could give us the best advice that someone else have given to you, what would it be ? We will be bringing our 2 shih tzus with us , hope they can cope with the heat ! . Sorry for the long post but getting excited as the months go by to retirement , Mrs has now even started buying things for our move !!

Regards

Pete Norcross

My dad lived in Los Alcazares for about 25 years. I visited a lot and got to know the area well. Like you, I really liked the place, but it didn't tick all the boxes for me. I'd swap a place near the beach for one that's the same price, but twice the size, but situated 5 miles inland, for instance. Los Alcazares is also pretty dead outside of the summer months.
In my opinion, the best way of going about things is to make a big list of those things that you want and then find the place that fits as best as possible. That's what we did and we ended up in Benimar. Where I chose to live might not suit you and vice versa. Take your time and find the place that suits you.

Rent before you buy!
I think you will find that once you have moved in and started living here you will start seeing things and places somewhat differently and renting will give you both the time and freedom to look around in peace. The housing market in this area is fairly slow so if you buy you may have a long wait if you decide it was the wrong choice and want to move to another area and you may lose money into the bargain.
Good luck and welcome to sunny Spain. :D :D :D

Contact a good lawyer before you fly. This way they can check the rental contract and also the purchase contract when you eventually buy. Try Silvia or Esther in Benijofar. www.sgmlegalspain.com Good luck in the future.

Get a head start with your NIE, visit a Spanish consulate in the UK and obtain one there, all done in next to no time. good luck with your preparations and plans.
