For the information of people living in the area of Dona Pepa in particular Avenida Almeria and surrounding area, a burglar during daylight hours is active. A house in Avenida Almeria was broken into at approx 2pm yesterday despite being fitted with an alarm and the alarm being activated. The house was rented by two english couples with small children who had set the alarm, secured the house and gone out for the day Property was stolen. Entry was via a rear kitchen window being forced. Entry to the reea was gained via adjoining grounds of a complex despite the house being detatched. This is the third burglary recently in this road . Earlier in the day a suspicious character walking a large GSD ( believed ) dog was seen trying gates and looking over the fences of at least 12 other properties in the same road at 10 am and was seen to leave the area and believed to have returned later to carry out the crime Please be aware of the threat it may be you next In my past career as a police officer I have dealt with scum like this for over 30 years. Be on your guard and react to alarms ringing they m,ay not be false alarms David & Wendy

Thanks for the warning and the advice "react to alarms ringing they may not be false alarms" is good advice. Many of us hear alarms going off and assume it is a false alarm but if the house is nearby, it does not do any harm to go out and look over to where the sound is coming from (make it obvious you are watching) - Even to slide open a window (noisily if possible) and put a head out to look is better than nothing. These thieves may be be stopped in their tracks if they see people are watching. You could make them scared and run off before they take anything.

When our development was new and vulnerable to break-ins (as all new developments seem to be due to the lack of awareness and excitement of being a new owner!) we were given whistles at the community meeting to make a noise with if anything untoward was spotted. Sounds a bit silly but any noise like that makes others aware too, even if they are just being normally curious and looking outside, and that can be the difference between a possible break in and an actual burglary.

Thanks again for this warning.

Good idea Jan, will put that forward at our next meeting,I think these burglars are professionals & will target houses with alarms, they think if you have an alarm fitted you have valuables to protect, cctv seems a better option, the police in the uk told us this.

I live on Antonio Quesada near the new church and was victim to an attempted burglary yesterday (Wed) between 4-00 & 8-00pm whilst we were out. The alarm was set. He/she had tried to enter via the kitchen but found the window too high, so they gained access at the front lounge window by smashing the glass with a rock from the garden, on trying to enter the property they set the alarm off and left without taking anything even though there were two tablets and an iPod within reach. I phoned the police who came within 5 minutes and were extremely helpful and also said they had attended another break in a few streets away. I spent time today at the ins u dance company and at the Guardia civil offices in Almoradi. It appears somebody is walking about the neighbourhood ringing door/gate bells to see if anybody answers. So be aware people, we were quite lucky. And report anything suspicious to the police, don't ignore it.

We were burgled when we had no alarm we have not been burgled since we installed one.
There are many reasons people get alarms and lets not assume that it is not a deterant as it is.
Burglars are mostly opportunists you don’t have to have an alarm to become a target we are all targets. We all have something valuable in our properties burglars know that.
I do not know what you expect CCTV to do for you? Who needs a clip of a masked burglar after the fact?
CCTV can be rendered useless very easily where as a good alarm cannot as they are fitted with anti tamper systems.
As for depending on your neighbour's my advice would be not to especially if something is going on at night, if you are lucky enough you will have vigilant and communicating neighbour's which will help everyone.
I am staying in an area where the age group is very high 80+ i would not expect any of my neighbour's to try and deter a burglar in any way shape or form. My advice and it is only advice is to look after your own home there are security companies out there who provide good services for this.
