Sorry to hear that. The problem here is the bank won't reimburse your money as you have been negligent and not protected your PIN.

When I first came here, the first shop was the benijofar Chinese and exactly the same thing happened to me except I only had cash taken. An old man asked for help in the same way. It's obvious that they target this shop. If I ever bother to go in there now, I only take the minimum but to be honest the staff are so rude I don't go. The Chinese shops in dona papa, benimar and el raso, as well as the high street in quesada are much more friendly and helpful. So beware it obviously happens a lot in that one place.

It seems to me that if you are asked by anyone for help, tell them to ask the staff. Now i have read this i will be looking out for him when i go in there next time he needs stopping.

I sometimes have to write down numbers as a reminder, but I tend to incorporate them into a phone number, at least then if some thieving toe rag managed to get access to them, they would think that it is somebody's phone number. If this type of theft has happened before, why don't you pay a visit to the store a couple of times at the time you were there to see if you could identify the old man, and then call the police.

I actually was nearly a victim 2-3 years ago and can say what they did. I was in Merca China and when I came round a corner, there was what looked like an older Spanish man trying to put small plastic containers onto a piece of cardboard, seemingly to then take them over to the counter to pay for them. He was struggling to balance them and asked for my help. As I was helping him, it seemed to me he was taking too long to get control. I had a 'man bag' at the time and I quickly looked round to see a very big Eastern European guy. He had the zip of my bag open and his hands were just to go in and take my wallet.
I said something appropriate and he just backed off and smiled. There was also another guy, so 3 in all.
I went to the counter and told the Staff but they did not want to get involved. The three men then stole an older ladies purse, but two of her male relatives gave chase and they dropped the purse and left in a car.
I think all three were actually Eastern European and maybe the same guys continuing to use their distraction routine.
If I ever use a 'man bag' now I never carry a wallet or any valuables in it just the other stuff I can't get in my pockets. The wallet is zipped up in a trouser pocket. My wife will not go in there with any more than 20 Euros max. I am particularly careful if I ever go to Merca China. Hope this helps people take extra caution
