Thieves about in Chinese Shop.

Thieves about in Chinese Shop.

Postby Chet » Tue Jul 18, 2017 6:44 pm

My wife had her purse stolen today in the large Chinese Shop going towards Benijofar today. There was a long queue with only 1 person on the checkout. She was holding a number of items and had her bag over her arm (not over her shoulder). When she approached the check 0ut she looked down to open her bag ad to her horror found the bag had been unzipped and her purse had been taken.

She had over 200E in her purse plus bank cards, zip cards, etc. Lesson learned - only take out what you need. The hassle of contacting the bank, credit card companies and having to renew Sip cards etc has made us realize just how vulnerable we all are.

Sorry to here that but if happens everywhere and yes we have to be realy carefull and vigilant when we are out shopping. I once had my bum bag tampered with but I noticed it 2 young guys Italian working as a team.

My friend shouted bandits and one was caught the security officer asked did they take anything and did they hurt me, ha I said no but I was going to give him a hiding they laughed and I said to let them go, but keep an eye on them.

So sorry to hear this -It's very upsetting and terribly inconvenient

Some people laugh at my OCD cautiousness but I never take an actual purse out with me and my husband rarely takes a wallet out to shops and markets etc. If he does ever take a wallet then all the things not needed are left in the safe at home.

We have small coin purses (or in my case usually a small plastic bank coin bag -hence the laughing at me) and just put in what I need for markets etc and if they get stolen it's not the end of the world. We don't use credit cards in shops/bars or restaurants but if needed to go to the bank etc then only the card we need is taken out with us.

I remember a friend who travelled in South Africa and was advised to keep a decoy wallet in his pocket with just a bit of money in it, in case of being held at gunpoint and asked to hand over his wallet. We are lucky that Spain is not quite like that and really it's only the same as most other countries and Quesada and surrounding is as safe as we make it by not giving the opportunist a chance. We've all seen the holidaymakers put their bags on backs of chairs or on the floor and the men put their wallets and phones on tables while eating and drinking..it's madness to do that anywhere!

Living in London and travelling on the tube and other transport has made me extra cautious and Im certainly not downgrading the affect that thieving has on the victim in Quesada and other local areas but it is relatively safe there, safer than London and no doubt other parts of England and as long as the usual caution is taken most of us won't be a victim.

What happened on this topic was very unfortunate but these low life thieves watch for any opportunity - Don't give them a chance!

I wa in there recently and a gypsy looking woman was getting very close to me, too close for my liking.
I just turned round faced her and said "yes, can I help you". She just frowned and made off rether quickly in the opposite direction. I'm sure she was after what was in my pocket to be that close, blimey, I don't even let my wife get that close. Lol.

I'm always concerned at the beach when you have to leave keys, belongings if you go for a swim in the sea. There are always people walking up and down - and you can't relax in the water. Maybe an over-reaction?

Always try to leave someone guarding personal items on the beach when going down to the sea and even when sitting I put the umbrella through any beach bags or other bag handles so they can't be grabbed by any passing thieves and cover them up from sight with towels or clothes. Any thieves, even at the beach, want an easy opportunity and it goes without saying really, not to take more personal stuff than is absolutely necessary when going to the beach - Any beach in any country!

We bought one of these ( http://www.kyssbags.com/ ) several years ago.

Expensive, yes but we've always felt that our stuff was safe either on resort, the beach or cruising. We invariably kept two iPads, two Kindles, two mobiles and a little cash in the bag when we're dining or swimming.

They sell small metallic wallets in the chinese shops, ideal for cards and a small amount of cash, ideal for putting in your pockets.
