Advice please: Faulty appliance or faulty electrics?
Advice please: Faulty appliance or faulty electrics?
by Paulr » Wed Jan 24, 2018 9:52 pm
We inherited an AEG dishwasher when we bought our property 18 months ago. We don't have the manual and nothing on the front of the machine to indicate the model number, but the inside is in good condition, so either it wasn't very old or hadn't been used much.
We've been using it once or twice a week, problem-free. However, a couple of weeks ago, it turned itself off mid-cycle. At first, we thought we'd had a power-cut, but nothing had tripped in the fuse box; over the past couple of weeks, it's done this every time we use it, and we've spotted a pattern with it doing this twice through the same wash programme. To start it again, I have to unplug it at the socket, plug it back in and when I press the 'On' button it continues the programme from where it left off.
Instinct tells me that because the electrics aren't tripping, the problem must be with the machine, but I can't get my head around why I have to unplug it from the wall to get it working again. If I don't unplug it, the 'On' button doesn't work. I'm trying to work out whether it's worth calling an electrician or a dishwasher repair man - if there is such a trademan out here? Any suggestions please? TIA.

You could possibly try using an extension cord to use another power circuit. I can only think physically unplugging it will drain any residual power in the circuit board.

Good idea to try an extension lead to another socket, and to check the water, drain etc.
However, my instinct is that it’s the controller board in the machine. Unplugging it will “reboot” it.

Did you call the repair man,,, ???
Silly question,,, will the dishwasher do a complete pre wash with no problems ???
(NO, its most likely the pump at fault)
and have you noticed if the water is hot when the machine does trip during the cycle its tripping on ???
if not or only is it only luke warm then Don't replace and control PCB's,,, its most likely the Heater or small water leak in the pipe work or pump,,,
btw, there are two pumps in a dishwasher,,,, spray pump and drain pump, and the best thing about small dishwasher leaks is that they stick out like a sore finger !!! all that rinse aid or detergent or that salt water from the regen back wash to clear the mono block.
AEG model number will be on the inner lip of the door,,, if find the model number and the 9 digit '94' number, I will tell how old the machine is and whether is even worth forking out on a repair
kind regards

Blimey, thanks lucy.d, I hadn't even noticed that label. The details are:
F60860M
PNC 911 371 024 00
S-No 70994974
I haven't tried a pre-wash only cycle, only the usual full wash, during which it cuts out with around 35 minutes to go and about 20 minutes to go, and the water does get hot.
Like you, info from other posters suggests it's the machine that's faulty, but not knowing the age of the machine, I don't know whether it would be cost effective to have it repaired, or just replace it. If you're able to tell me the age of the machine from the label info above, that would be really helpful.
Many thanks,
Paul
