How to protect against getting bitten by mosquitos?

If we're going to sit outside, we use those anti-mosquito wipes which you can get in any supermarket. They seem to spread better and more evenly without leaving gaps.
After bite, if we didn't use the wipes, is a great thing to have as it does ease the sting for some time. You can also use vinegar (bit smelly) or ice which takes away the sting.
The best, really the best, thing we ever did was have mosquito screens fitted on all the windows and doors. It means we can leave the windows/doors open but it keeps out the little things and also the odd fly that gets in (why do they always come in at meal times?). Fantastic at night with the french windows open and a sliding mosquito panel to go over it. No burning repellants or electronic plug-ins necessary.
We also have one of those mosquito repellant lanterns on the patio but, whilst it may repel the mozzies, it also attracts loads of moths which can be a nuisance.

Hola. I have been taking vitamin b tablets, 1 a day, everyday, and am not being bitten anymore. Love it. Get them from uk supermmarkets or online. Great value especially when 3 for price of 2 bottles from uk supermarkets.

I use a Spanish product from the chemist. It is called Halley and is the essence of Lemon, which apparently they don't like the smell of. It does work for me, spraying all over first thing in the morning. I also use afterbite which is an amonia based pencil stick and is very effective if you do get bitten in soothing the wound. I always carry both on me as the little buggers get everywhere!!

My wife has been bitten a lot this trip & often it looks like bruises. Her friend has just told her to buy Nenuco baby lemon cologne from Mercadona & put that on in the evening as it works for them. That's definitely on the shopping list. Her friend also says about 3 weeks before they fly out and during the holiday they take vitamin B complex as mentioned by harlejan & they never get bitten.

I have that and it comes in a really big bottle but I have small plastic spray bottles that I decant it into - I wouldn't use it on it's own, as the only protection, but after using normal insect repellent before going out it's handy to spray on as an extra when outside. Not sure if it works but you will smell lovely!

Your poor thing I can truly sympathise with you. We no longer visit in the summer as the little blighters spoil my holiday so much. Apparently you're more likely to be bitten if you take HRT - another joy of being a woman!
PS I posted this message just now but can't see it now - very strange.

I have a theory, going by people I know, that mosquito's like certain skin and not others - I have quite dry fair skin that doesn't tan and I don't get bitten that much (although I do get the odd one or two!). My husband on the other hand has more oily skin and easily goes brown as a berry and always get's bitten. The mossie's make a bee line for him but not me. Does anyone else find this?
