PCWorld customer care Vs Stranger's Kindness
PCWorld customer care Vs Stranger's Kindness
by parkyspix » Wed May 27, 2015 12:29 pm
I was wondering if there are any members who have had problems with PC World, in particular, with their Customer Care department?
I hadn't realised what a bad reputation they had until my own problem started and now I feel like I am going round and round in circles.
My problem began last month when my son was over on holiday with us and my camera just wouldn't focus. It displayed an error message that basically meant that it had to be sent to the dealer for inspection - so my son took it home with him along with the proof of purchase which showed it was still under guarantee.
Now anyone who knows me will tell you that I am fanatical about my camera. I take great care with it, it is cleaned and kept in pristine condition. It is only ever used with the strap over my head and in it's case when not in use.
When my son took it into the store in Swansea, even the assistant commented on how good the camera looked. He also said that when the camera had been serviced it would have a further 3 month guarantee - result thought I!
Imagine my horror when the store contacted my son to say that the service had shown that the fault was due to 'impact damage'! Therefore, it was not covered by any guarantee and that I would have to pay £65 to carry on with the service or pay to upgrade the camera!!
NO WAY!! Even their own service docket showed there was no sign of any damage.
This last month has been filled with me emailing back and forth to them as they have consistently failed to understand what I have told them. They have made so many mistakes in their correspondence that it beggars belief!
I have written direct to Fuji but apart from being given a tracking reference, have heard nothing more from them.
I was mortified to find out that the Office of Fair Trading has now ceased to exist - what a blow to consumers and an open gate to companies to rip their customers off.
So I was thoroughly shocked, surprised and overcome with gratitude when a complete stranger offered me the loan of one of his cameras. It came about as a result of me asking a question on a photography forum regarding my problem and we have become good friends in the last few weeks.
How thoroughly fantastic to find someone as kind as this here in this part of the world especially when I was feeling so disheartened.
I would like to publicly express my thanks and gratitude to Alan and his wife Irene. They are the salt of the earth and they live here in sunny Spain!!

I know of several people who have had bad experiences of the so-called customer care from PC World.
My friend Mary has had problems with her laptop, this is what she says:

So Parkyspix, although not a help, you should know that you are not alone!! Good luck with your fight!!

My computer has crashed & burned AGAIN! I've had my computer back & forth to PC world 6 times now, & the same problem is happening over & over again. Even though (they claimed) to have put a new hard drive in it, it's still so slooooooooooooooow & clunky It's just a nightmare to use."

I had problems with PC world, cost me a fortune. Finally I kicked up a stink in the store and demanded to see the manager with regards to making an official complaint. Result? Laptop on loan, last payment refunded, then when it came back the last time, still wrong, demanded they check the fault in store. That worked. It was something so simple it didn't need to have been sent away in the first place. Went away three times, fourth time lucky: and the set basic repair charge refunded. But asking for the address of where to complain works wonders; no store wants a connection to a complaint.
So Parkyspix, although not a help, you should know that you are not alone!! Good luck with your fight!!

Thank you for your replies! The only problem with Citizens Advice Bureau Dot is that I am here until August so can't really do anything there.
I realise that I have to give PC World and Fuji time to answer my emails and the Bank Holiday won't have helped, but I have decided that maybe it's worth getting in touch with the local newspapers to see if they can run an article.
I can certainly empathise with your friends Calamitykay!! Still, at least one of them finally managed to get a decent result.
