UK/GOV Scam

UK/GOV Scam

Postby Ken woodland » Wed Nov 08, 2017 11:16 am

Recd an email today allegedly from UK Gov, stating that I had 385 pounds that they wish to repay.
They wanted my credit / debit card number in order to place the funds into my account.

I cannot conceive the UK Government paying monies into my account at the best of times and to ask for my credit card number beggars belief.
Just thought it worth letting people know that this scam is around.
Take care

There are lots of these scams around and hopefully anyone who uses email or telephone should know this by now but always good to remind people - Just hit the delete/trash can button with anything that asks for bank details etc. Genuine companies/banks do not do this.

Also I never answer any phone number I don't recognise, if you have an answer-phone or message system there is no need! Any genuine caller will leave a message. My husband thinks that every phone call is life and death and I almost have to physically restrain him from answering every call that comes in (even when he is doing something important or watching his favourite TV programme) - I think there are many people like that and this is what the scam callers rely on!!

I have actually stood in front of my husband, with my arms outstretched to physically stop him from reaching for the phone - We even have caller display as well as answerphone service!
The calls that come in that I know are not friends and family say Withheld and International or weird numbers and even if one of those happen to be an important call they will leave a message! He just cannot restrain himself.
