Registration/Padron/Census for ALL Dogs

Registration/Padron/Census for ALL Dogs

Postby lindylou23 » Tue Mar 07, 2017 2:02 pm

Have heard recently that ALL dogs have to be registered in Spain, was actually told that they have to go on the Padron.

Initially I thought this was April Fools Day come early, as we go to the Town Hall in Rojales every six months to renew our Padron and SIP cards and thought that it was only dangerous dogs that this applied to.

This morning we went to renew our paperwork and Miguel on the desk upstairs informed us that ALL dogs must be registered (even though the sign says registration for dangerous dogs). We had to show his passport, chip number and paperwork and our NIE document.

I am not sure when this was started or what the implications would be if you were randomly stopped by police and asked for the relevant paperwork, (perhaps somebody out there might know), but I have registered my dog....just incase. Apparently it does not have to be renewed.

Strange the vets don't mention it if it is a legal requirement.

Don't think there is any need to panic, just making other dog owners aware.

As long as you have the dog microchipped and Rabies blood test/jab then that is all that is required. If your dog is on the dangerous dog list then yes it has to be registered (German Shepherds are not dangerous dogs by the way despite what you may hear from the "know it alls".

Well we had all that information logged in our dogs passport and according to Miguel still needed to register him.

I asked the question when we renewed our padron, if what I had heard was only for dangerous dogs because that is what the printed sign at the town hall says, and as previously stated Miguel told me it is for all dogs regardless of breed, so I have no idea what is going on. Perhaps if somebody is due to renew their padron anytime soon they could ask the question and be kind enough and clarify the situation for all dog owners.

Dunkinitbig ....What has German Shepherds got to do with this post, nobody has mentioned any breed, are you one of those "know it alls" you wrote about because you seem to be assuming and possibly taking this personally, very strange.

I only posted this for information because of my experience at the town hall.

Be glad you don't live in Andalusia. Cats and ferrets have to be registered there as well as dogs.

All dog, cat and ferret owners in Andalucía are required to register their animals on the Animal Identification Registry of Andalucía (Registro Andaluz de Identificación Animal, RAIA).
Owners have three months to register their pets, except for those with a potentially dangerous breed of dog who have one month to obtain the necessary licence.

(From pets-in-spain website regarding andalusia)

Lucky it was but the police man said if it wasn't he would have of had to fine him. We got ours done this week doesn't take long at the town hall

Rubbish, all dogs must be registered with town hall, dangerous dogs with the police.

check the law before posting.
