Alicante Freight - Opinions please

Alicante Freight - Opinions please

Postby N3lson » Sat Apr 21, 2018 7:41 am

Has anyone used Alicante Freight to bring goods to Spain. I'm thinking of buying a tv from Currys and having it delivered to their UK address ready to be transported here.

Your opinions on their service would be appreciated.

I bought a TV in John Lewis’ Black Friday sale and had it shipped to Kevin of Silverdale Transport (their advert is in the panel on the left). He brought it out at a very reasonable price.

And in case of anyone wondering why I went that route, it’s because I saved over €400 against the, then, Carrafour price.

I hope you realise that once the TV leaves the UK the guarantee is null and void

For the international carriage of goods by road, the haulier's liability is limited to 2 SDR's (Special Drawing Rights) per kg. This is about US Dollars 1.45 x 2 per kg. TV's are quite light nowadays, so look at the gross weight of the TV including packaging. I would suggest you check with the haulier and ask him to insure the goods for CIF plus 10 per cent (value of goods, plus the cost of insurance and freight plus 10 per cent). Otherwise, if the goods weigh 15kg and get damaged, you might only get 45 Dollars compensation and you will still be responsible for the freight charges, as you cannot offset the freight charges against a claim. If you have the goods insured and they are damaged, you will still have to pay the freight to the carrier but you will be reimbursed for this plus the cost of the goods through the insurance.

Secondly, someone mentioned the guarantee is invalidated if you export the goods from the UK. I think this depends on the manufacturer as they might offer an international guarantee. Of course, you would have to deal with the manufacturer or their local agent, as Curry's won't be there to help you.

Road haulier liability depends on t&cs under CMR it’s actually 8.33 SDRs per kilo so about £8.75, so still have to be careful if not fully insured
