FREE ENTERTAINMENT

Postby Dukelton » Mon Apr 23, 2018 8:33 am

During the summer holidays, (end of July-Sept) i will be back again, and i am looking for any venue that would like some free entertainment. I have contacted several places, but for some reason they do not return my emails. The country club, poco loco, and places like this. I'm sure i'm not that bad! i am prepared to play for anyone that needs a little boost, or fund raiser. `i have a few gigs lined up in Cabo Roig, so come on, take a chance. Music of the 60's & 70's, and/or a quiz to go with it.

Hello sir, we are a charity for cats and dogs situated in quesada. Now and then we do a fashion show, a sing a long evening and others.... Unfortuanally does all the profit that we need so badly for the animals, goes to,the "bands" or entertainer. So we would be happy to have somebody who could boost our raffles or fund raising with some FREE entertainment.
So if you would like to help us then get in touch with the lady from the charity on the folowing adres:
[email protected]
Regards Happy cat.

Hi

Just to give you a heads up.....there are a lot of problems here on the Costa Blanca with live music this year, the local police are coming down hard on entertainment without proper work permits and public liability insurance, even if they are playing for free ! ....they see it as the British are taking work away from Spanish entertainers so they’re making it difficult for every one (except Spanish !) There are hefty fines being dished out....all live jam sessions up to Cartagena, even with hobby musicians have been stopped, they are now moving up further to cover Costa Blanca South....it’s a horrible situation, I only play private events now...Weddings Ect...

This is a post from another site where musicians were checked...

Hi Everyone...... Just a heads up that Martin Kay was spot on about spot checks being done at various locations. I was covering for Bee Rumble at Shooters Bar Gran Alacant (due to her being poorly) last night and after 2 songs in walked 4 National Police officers filming on their phone !!! 2 of them were female and had been in plain clothes sat there waiting until i started, of course we had to stop and after all paperwork, full inventory of all equippment, photographs taken of my PA system, ID checks, Bar staff and owners checked etc etc etc (1 hour plus later) we were told we could carry on with the gig. It didn´t spoil the night, it was fab and big thanks to Emma and her team for making me feel so welcome. I Just thought i would let you all know........ xxxxx

Be careful...
Regards
Noel...

Noel - Thank you for that info. :text-thankyouyellow:
I am aware of the crackdown on performers , that has recently begun , but did not know that it also includes "Jam sessions" .
Like yourself , i am going to limit performing strictly to private function , and ( now ) avoid the one and only session that i attend .
I think this latest crackdown , is going to have a very negative impact on the music scene here .

The general perception is that entertainers should work for nothing but I don't agree. Why should they give up their time and talent for free unless it is a charity they are involved with and want to do so themselves?

Who else gives of their time for free when it comes to charities? If the charity runs an advert in the local paper or tickets get printed or posters are needed, are these free?
If the event is run in a bar, do the staff and owners give their services for free?

I have known of bars to advertise their venue is available for free for charities but what a joke 'for free'. The charity is bringing in a crowd to make a profit for the venue selling plenty of alcohol (probably on an off night when the place would be idle)
Does the bar give the profits on the night to charity?

So my question is, why should the entertainer work for free?

Most of the charities rely on volunteers, a volunteer works for free. As for printing poster and buying raffles, that money comes out of the charities pot.

My point is why should all come out of the pot except the entertainer? He or she is not a volunteer no more than the printer, publican, bar staff, newspapers etc.

my take on this is, i will help all i can to those in need. i have been an entertainer for over fifty years, and i was always helped on the way, by people willing to give up their time for me. if i support the charity, i will do the same. this is for the individual to assess whether they give their time for free, or not. I have also in the past charged for certain charities, where i know people are being paid. I have donated my publishing rights and record sales to deserving charities in the past, but i chose which ones i think are deserving. There is no right or wrong way to treat this, it is a personal moral decision, and i can see both points of view. But i will be seeking to get the legal paperwork to perform if necessary. it is a worry, and quite unfair in my view, as in UK, anyone may perform as long as they pay their dues.
