GOUT !!!

+1 for alopurinol on a daily basis. Started with with 100 mgs tablets, now on 300 mgs, prescribed by my GP. On them 15+ years

Raw tomatoes were the thing that set mine off. No problems with anything else, pasta sauses, lasagne, etc.

I am told that it makes you a higher rick of having Kidney Stones, (which I have). Don't know which is the more painful.

sadly, 'every' food has the possibility of causing an attack of gout, but in varying levels depending on the type of protein and the by-product of purines from digesting these. these then form sodium urate crystals which are needle-like shards that rest in any lower body parts joints, most commonly the great-toe knuckle. everyone is different to what is the trigger for an attack, so it is not a rich persons disease. if you ever get to narrow down what your food choices are that causes 'yours' to flare up then you have a head start. otherwise, you may as well just carry on as normal, eat and drink what you like. possible treatments include naproxen, prednisolone (a steroid), avoid walking on it when ever possible for the duration, if you think about it these needle like shards dig into the joint tissue causing further inflammation and so the more you walk and bend the joint it takes longer to ease off. also, drink plenty of water / fluids of any description, this helps flush away these crystals. this is not an exhaustive cure, but there should be plenty of info on the net for you.
