It`s all about averages.

You’ll qualify for Winter Fuel Payment if:
you were born on or before 5 May 1953 (for winter 2016 to 2017 - this date changes every year)
you lived in the UK throughout the week of 19 to 25 September 2016
You may be able to get the payment if you live in Switzerland or a European Economic Area (EEA) country and you have a genuine link with the UK.

You can’t get the payment if you live in Cyprus, France, Gibraltar, Greece, Malta, Portugal or Spain because the average winter temperature is higher than the warmest region of the UK.

If you lived in the UK and you had weather like we have at the moment the heating would be on full blast, not just for a few hours each day and that`s in a proper insulated house . I`ve not long been back from the UK, so I know.

I didn't say I can`t afford to heat our house, because we can with no problem. Yes our heating bill is high, but what price comfort. Our house is as snug as bug in a rug. and having fitted carpets in the whole house, including bathrooms has made a vast difference. :)

Those floor tiles may be okay in the Summer but they are freezing in the Winter, and as all the rads are on a thermostat they just kick in when needed.

Fitted carpets in Spain? A 5 Star hotel for creepy crawlies.

Not really. We have large carpets that we lay down just in the colder months. We then take them up when it gets warmer and, I must admit, it does make a big difference. Not quite fitted but takes up virtually all the living room.
Haven't got round to laying them in the bathroom, though. Just a few scatter rugs to step on.

We did suffer with tiny ants for ages but since having the carpets fitted they have disappeared. I can only assume the gripper rods have blocked any holes along the skirting. :D

Rugs are one thing and necessary in the winter months, fitted carpet something else. I am blessed with a wife who suffers from OCD, in her case, Obsessive Cleaning Disorder. Nothing wrong with that other than she wishes to share the condition with me. We have to spring clean once a month, our house is sterile, believe me. Despite that, it is quite common for me to find insect eggs laid around the legs of furniture. It is very easy to spot these on the tiles but they would not be at all visible on a floor with wall to wall carpets. Last summer we went away for a month and came back to an ant fiesta in our lounge, we managed to get rid of them quite easily with a liquid ant killer dripped onto the tiles. I shudder to think what would happen with fitted carpet, it must get infested in time.

I have to agree Brandy Boy.
Rugs are fine if you feel you need them.
Which a lot of people do.
I don't like nasty bugs and dirty little creatures though.

I don't like nasty creepy crawly creatures either. Not many people do.

But we've had fitted carpets for over three years now and we've had no problems whatsoever, and not is the house lovely and warm, but easier to keeep clean, which also keeps the bugs away.

It can´t be easier to keep a carpet clean than tiles but each to their own.
