we flew our little dog from NZ 40 hours no food,3 take off and landings, joined us at LHR 2 hours after landing with squeals of delight, she is now 10 years old, no bad effects but is more sensitive to noise, but that could be age.
We tend to humanise things, What does your dog do when no one is about....Sleep.
The hold of the plane is pressurised and heated. Out main concern was that she had never been in a cage, so I slowly built a super de luxe travel cage around her box.a bit a week so she didnt notice it. When she arrived she was in a plastic travel cage...oh well best laid plans etc.....

13 years ago, this weekend, we flew our manic collie, was a nightmare in the car, we got the information we needed at San Antons vets in Guardamar, it was done via Dominoes kennels in La Marina (not in the Urb, but out in the country). We were really happy with the service, they delivered our dog when we had settled in, after a few days, they delivered her in a Mercedes estate and arrived as if she had just been around the block, very satisfied I think they are still in business, they arranged everything. If interested I am sure San Antons will help you from uk or Spain. Phone no. 965727817.

We used Pets on Jets using Monarch ( Manchester) as carrier to transport our Staffie last year. Very organised. There were a couple of hidden charges at Alicante though. ( about 80 euros). Our dog had also bit through the plastic cage provided and had cut her mouth. This was more to do with her being a bit of a nutter ,rather than a reflection of the company's capability .Overall we were pleased . Hope this helps

Only ever flew our Staffie once back to the uk and I would never do it again as it was very stressful to him and he was always more nervous to loud bangs since he had flown,I've driven my dog to Spain many times since then as it is less stressful to the dog

I wanted Newcastle but it's quite complicated , I think the monarch from Manchester is the one we will use if we chose to fly him out , may well end up driving again though , thanks folks

Glassman, sounds like your cat coped with it ok? Am thinking about bringing my cats, a bit worried how they'd cope with the travel ( mind you the drive to Manchester in the first place would probably be what they would hate most...). Also, if you don't mnd me asking, what was the approximate price to fly a cat from Manchester to ALicante ? Any general enquiries I have made have sounded very expensive . ( Ok for a permanent relocation but a bit steep for regluar travel... )
