Safe would not open!
Safe would not open!

most of you people reading this will understand what to do if your safe will not open when you put the correct code into it but for someone like myself who doesn’t know, here is what to do...
At the front of the safe, you will see a small panel with writing on it. Take a sharp implement eg screwdriver and wedge the panel off. You will now see a key hole. Take the key that came with the safe when it was installed and using it, open the safe door. You will now have to replace the battery which operates the safe. Simple. Once done, put the panel back on and you should be back in business.
Personally, I had no idea that it would be as simple a procedure but fortunately, my husband knew, so all is well again! I had visions of having to get a locksmith in!

Some safes have two electrical contacts on the front panel that allow you to touch a 9v battery against them to power the safe if the internal batteries have died.
Most of the cheaper safes can also be opened by hitting the plastic piece that sticks out of the front with something solid. A potato is the favourite thing to use, but a cigarette lighter also works well. The impact bounces the internal spring on the solenoid up and down and allows you to turn the knob to open the safe. It takes a bit of practice to get the timing right, but it’s very easy to do and leaves no sign of damage. Take a look on YouTube for ‘how to open a safe with a potato’ and give it a try.
If your safe can be opened that way then it’s time to buy a new one. Leave your old safe where it is as a way of keeping burglars occupied for a while and fit a new one that’s well hidden. Wall or floor safes are best, as they are more difficult to find and if they’ve been installed well they will take longer to rip out.

Hi Pete,
This is awful. I looked on u tube and I don’t understand how people are allowed to show this to the general public. No point in putting valuables into the safe...back to the old mattress! Thankfully, we have no valuables so in truth, apart from the passports, nothing else. Yes, am aware that our passports are probably the most valuable thing we have but not too many people look like either of us!

It’s best we all know how insecure these safes are, without these posts the majority of us would be none the wiser and put our valuables in them thinking we are SAFE. IF you p.m. the info 1 person gets to know, on the forum we all now know.
