Smart meters

Smart meters

Postby Motters » Tue Apr 25, 2017 12:51 pm

Hello,

We have had our electric meter changed to a "smart" meter. Iberdrola did the work but they have now restricted us to 3.3 kw. After much "discussion" with Iberdrola I need a qualified electrician to inspect the wiring in my property and issue a report to Iberdrola before they will increase the rating.

These meters are being rolled out by all electricity companies by the end of 2018 so lots of us are going to have this problem.

Does anyone know of a qualified electrician who can undertake this work.

Thanks

Hello Motters,

I can highly recommend Steve Birkett, Electrician, he is based at El Raso. Excellent work, honest and a very pleasant chap. His contact details are on this forum under trades etc., hope this helps.

Daniel Snell - AMPS (Electrical Engineers) sorted us out with the same problem, very quickly. Can highly recommend him as well.

Hi Quesadalad,

When we tried to boil a kettle with the oven on everything went out, all the fuses where still in so I rang Iberdrola and where told that my rating was now 3.3 kw. From that came the post. I was told the rating is shown on the bills. Hope this helps. Best of luck.

QUESADALAD, I'm not sure about there being a 'reduction in rating', more likely that your Smart Meter will be regulated to the rating currently shown on your Iberdrola Bill.

We had the same problem when we went for the two tariff system. I explained to Iberdrola that they had an old phone and passport number on our account but they said in the office in Torrevieja to don`t worry about. It would be too much hassle to update it. When they fitted the smart meter, it kept tripping out. I went to Iberdrola again and they said that the meter was set to our original 18 year old contract..3.3kw. !!
He also went on the explain that under my present tariff I could have 3.4, 4.4 or 5.6 without any extra payment or new boliten. Which would I like, which was a silly question. I said 5.6kw of course. They came out the next day with his laptop, connected it to the smart meter, and now everything is fine. And if go online, we still have our old phone and passport number in our account details. The only thing that`s changed is 3.3 to 5.6

Hi Quesadalad,

We might have been rated at 3.3kw in the past, I did not look or enquire. It was only when the whole house went off that I started asking what was going on. We have a qualified electrician coming round to inspect and issue a certificate for Iberdrola. The only good outcome is we will know our wiring is up to spec.

Right thanks for that, my electric bill was not due to next month (may)so i was a bit suprised to get a bill a week ago but that was probably for the last reading on my old meter that bill still says 5.5kw but i am exspecting another bill in May for the month they have missed the reading of my smart meter so i will check the rating if and when that arrives

Thanks again.
