Spanish Residency

Hi Just joined forum, so apologies if I am covering old ground. Just bought a place in Quesada, and looking to move out semi-permanent. Can anyone please advise pros / cons / costs etc of becoming a Spanish resident? I was "assuming" residency would help with medical cover etc?

I think this link is to the most recent thread of discussion which gives a lot of information and views and is really worth reading as it more or less answers your question... residency-in-spain-padron-residencia-passport-advice-f112/pros-cons-for-residency-non-residency-t16716.html
From what I know, It is really a matter of how long you stay in a year. More than 183 days in Spain in a year and the SPanish taxman regards you as tax resident. Whether that is a plus or a negative for you depends on your own personal circumstances... Residency itself does not give you access to health cover. As a non resident visitor you can use your EHIC card ( am assuming you are a uk citizen) to get emergency treatment ( not on-going treatment.) . If resident you need to have a work contract ( hence pay social security) if under 65 or else take out private health insurance and if over 65 there is a process to register to get your health 'swapped over' from uk so you would get health careas a pensioner. For the time being anyway, though once brexit kicks in and UK leaves EU that might no longer be possible ( in which case you would need private health insurance. ) Among all the arcane regulations it is possible that the Spanish-Uk health agreement for pensioners would still exist ( Marcliff will know as he knows everything) if it is a bilateral agreement but if it is an EU wide one, clearly it is at risk.
