Toilet cistern Gala - How to remove lid please?
Toilet cistern Gala - How to remove lid please?
by Jan » Fri Jun 23, 2017 4:06 pm
Hi
We have traditional toilets and Gala cistern's in our Spanish house with single push button flushes at the top and one has started to have an intermittant problem where the flush takes longer to fill the tank and continues to make a filling noise longer than normal and then has a very slow leak into the pan.
We always fix our own toilets in the UK and know how to do them and this seems like it's probably a washer/seal thats gone.
However the problem is, how does the lid come off this type of cistern? We have looked at YouTube and the maufacturer instructions but can't find this actual cistern (it was put in with the house in 2005)
At home we have normal lever action toilets so are not used to this type and don't want to break anyrhing by mistake. Hopefully one of you out there will have done this and can give us instructions. Thanks for any help.

For a quick fix press button in several times and it usually stops it running on

Our cisterns are push button, it just unscrews and the lid lifts off. Had the same problem recently, had to replace a washer.

Do you mean the button unscrews or the surround?

Remember to first turn off the water. The plunger which has the seal at the bottom is secured by a plastic bracket secured at the bottom and top. At the top of the plunger is a horseshoe shaped clip which should be unclipped, At the bottom of the plunger the long legs should be unclipped by pulling out sideways. The bracket can now be removed. The large cover (grey) at the bottom should be unclipped by pulling upwards. The plunger can now be removed. The reassembly is the reverse of the above but ensure that the notches in the underside of the large grey cover are located over the lugs which the long legs of the bracket are clipped to. Sounds complicated but when seen it should become apparent.

Brilliant thanks!
So far just taking off the lid and tightening the push button seem's to have made it better for now but will keep the instructions above for when we need them.
Much appreciate the speedy reply- Many thanks.
