Hi there!

Absolutely correct. In my area, there are 3 women doing the same job as the men, and they're paid around £7000 per year more than their male colleagues.

Isn't it horrifying?

My understanding is that Poland unilaterally reduced the Pension age for women to 60 and 67 for men in Oct 17. This was not supported by the EU. At least Poland have had the balls to stand up to the EU on this and other issues and with their economy currently booming they may be next in line to leave the EU. The UK deferred pension date affects me personally by 1 year but my partner by 6. I think deferring women’s pensions by 6 years is totally unjust it should have been staged in my opinion.

How do you work that out? It all depends on the value of your pension over time. You simply can't put a figure on it like that!

Also - you're not happy that you could draw down on your personal pension at 55 then? Or draw down 25% of it tax-free?

Shame on that Government who implement these things.

Dottyp, you seem to have missed my point. I agree the pension age should be the same for men and women, but I didnt find out my pension age was rising above 60 until I was nearly 50. Small companies then didnt have company pensions, and once I had started a company pension at about 45, I had virtually no private pension to fall back on. In those days most of us relied on the state pension.

For younger women, they know the age they're retiring is 67, it is compulsory for companies to offer a private pension and they have more time to save and plan for the future, we didnt have this luxury.

Yes £40,000 is arbitrary but basing it on my husband's state pension of £130 a week and the fact I am 62, it is a pretty fair assumption.

Tontri...no-one should ever have relied on a state pension. I imagine that before long, the state pension will be abolished, and those who have paid in over the years won't get their considerable contributions back.

Also...you say you lost out to the tune of £40k...but you could have chosen to work until you were 66 anyway, and in most cases that would far outweigh the £40000...so it was your choice.

When the pension rules were changed wasn’t also the law setting that you had to retire at 60 also changed? I seem to recall there was no choice. As for relying on state pensions, the environment I was dragged up in, pensions and insurances were luxuries not necessities so I am afraid I am in the same boat as Tontri and no doubt millions of others. Those who have the benefit of private pensions should count themselves lucky.

Ok, so my SPA has increased from 60-66, my husband from 65-66. Shouldn't men as well as women campaign that this isn't what we thought was the deal when we started contributing at the start of our working lives? The only personal communication I've had was to say that I'd made sufficient contributions to receive a full state pension. I've received nothing since to amend that fact-that's pretty poor..

Yes very true but I signed my wife up for Wasp and hope this will work but alas we all know politicians they seem to do what they want these days and truthfully of they did give in to the people it would cost millions and can't see them doing that. Just look at our armed forces depleted but as usual it falls on deaf ignorant ears!

Keep on fighting let's not let THEM! To walk over women good luck.

Pete.

Tontri...happy to agree to disagree...

Advice though...with those 3 conditions, you would qualify for PIP, which would give you between £77 and £140 per week (if you're not claiming it already).
