Warfarin

Yes, and if you pay for prescriptions in the UK then you’ll probably find it cheaper to buy in Spain.
If you need to get an INR test then you can get this done at the local Centro de Salud, but the process is a bit long-winded. You go to the Salud with your passport and EHIC and get an appointment to see a doctor, who will then give you an appointment for the INR test. If you have a Coaguchek machine test then you’ll be given the results there and then, but if you need a venous blood test then you’ll need another appointment in a couple of days to get the results.
My wife needs to have regular venous blood tests because the Coaguchek machine isn’t very accurate for her particular condition. Rather than go through the performance at the Salud she has blood tests at a local pharmacy that cost around €12 and you get the results the same day by email.

The drug used in Spain is Sintron . Its not warfarin, but does the same job and the doctor would advise you on dosage based on your INR result. If you don't want to go via the NHS here, needing a translator etc, you can go privately to the doctor at the medical centre near the arches. His staff speak English. The cost of the test is 18euros and result is done in minutes. Doc can give you a prescription at a small charge. I have been unable to buy warfarin here, but, as said, Sintron does the same job, but you do need advice on dosage.

Though it is called sintron not everybody takes the same depending on what illness you have or what operation you have had mainly involving the heart. The sintron clinic is held on Mondays, Wednesdays and possibly Fridays at 8am and you pick up the result at about 1.30pm and the print out will tell you the amount you have to take every day and when you have to come back for the next test. There is warfarin here it is marketed as warfarina and the make is Aldocumar and comes in different strengths. You would probably need to see a doctor first to be able to be put on the list.

I am on Warfarin just now 6mg due to a blood clot in leg. This was prescribed by UK doctor. I have been getting monitored as prescribed by nurse in UK. I am now due to get blood checked again. The problem is I am going to run out of Warfarin before I go back to UK. This is why I need help please.
