Went to the Gatewayfor lunch today Monday, it had opened its doors on Saturday. The menu is the same menu as the defunct "Bells" with Hungarian bias. I had the Hungarian goulash soup followed by the Holstein pork steak with mustard and fried egg. My wife had prawn cocktail followed by Chicken stroganof with rice. I had a large beer and my wife a glass of white wine. We had a blueberry pancake to finish, everything was delicious and the bill 15.90 euros Total.. Charlie, the owner was busy on the opposite side of the road rebuilding the umbrella garden and painting the bar area, this is the same area as he had at The Bells which is directly opposite the new Gateway restaurant.
Definitely worth a visit.

For those not aware of the location, it is in the street directly behind The Old Don Carlos.

We went to the Gateway on our arrival day and were impressed with the quality and quantity. But, went a week later when there was a full house and both had dropped miserably. Appears there is a new chef. Charlie is looking to artify the gardens with unknown Hungarian artists.

We had an enjoyable meal sitting outside at The Gateway this afternoon around 2:30pm. There was just us outside, one other couple were eating indoors.

Today Charlie started a Greek platter for 5€ which includes a drink. It consisted of a deep bowl of iceberg lettuce with cherry tomatoes, cucumber, feta cheese & sliced black olives topped with tsatsiki & some lemon, two wooden skewers of grilled chicken with onions, green & red peppers & a large 'jacket potato' though not as we know a jacket potato. There were two large halves of potato that had been cooked in its skin costed in oil. Yummy. There was also a basket of their sweet bread & we had a big glass of red wine each. Go & support Charlie, he deserves that.

oh im so glad that this place has got great reviews, we are going for lunch in a couple of weeks. the menu sounds nice and it seems very very in-expensive.
Actually can't wait to try it now. Might have to go on my own before Rob comes home and try it out for myself

thank you for that English rose, as only 3 weeks been living here I have to get it into my head that I live here, and with my other half working in the uk I really don't want to be throwing euros about so to speak, but nice to go out for great food at by the sounds of it reasonable prices, probably couldn't cook at home for some of those prices. looki8ng forward to going now. :text-thankyouyellow:

I love trying new places Dawn, and there are still so very many w've not yet tried, but we always plan in a meal at Gateway (we still call it The Bells!), Goyos (5 courses for 9.50 euro including small glass of beer or wine!) and Patagonia for the fantastic steaks in that area of CQ. There are a fair few others around CQ we visit time again and our list of favourites grows longer with every holiday! And as you say, you'd be hard pushed to cook at some for those prices... and you'd have to do all the dishes - lol
