Bathroom materials

Postby Wrightmanuk » Sun Jan 08, 2017 10:08 pm

Hello, we are looking to do maintenance to our property in the bathroom. Does anyone know if there is access to shower panels (mdf sheets with a water proof covering in various styles) or similar materials in the area or near by?
Many thanks.

Could anyone also recommend a local builders merchants or similar. We have been out to Leroy Merlin and would like a wider range.
Also may be a silly question. Can anyone confirm if Spanish plumbing is commonly in 15mm as we are in England, and would our fittings fit the pipe over in Spain?

For building supplies try Preyser on the corner by Consum. They have some good, and inexpensive, materials which might suit. A bigger outlet is Brico Depot in Crevillente. It's part of the Kingfisher (same as B&Q) group and has a large stock of all materials.
I think there is a difference in the pipes used in plumbing. However, the DIY shop on the right just before you get to Los Montesinos has a very good plumbing department. So does Brico Depot. Both places are quite cheap compared with Leroy Merlin and Aki.

I've not seen waterproof sheet materials on sale in Spain. The Spanish approach seems to be tiles for everything!

Spanish plumbing uses UK style fittings for many things, even using 3/8", 1/2" and 3/4" threads for the fittings. Whereas the UK tends to use just 15mm and 22mm in domestic applications you may find other sizes being used in Spain as well.
Plumbing fittings are generally cheap compared to the UK, but if you have lots available at home and you can get them over here cheaply then it may be worth bringing some.
The Spanish approach to plumbing is a bit different to the UK (not necessarily better or worse, just different techniques and fittings), but it doesn't take long to get to grips with it.
The major difference I've found is with drains. You won't find vented soil pipe stacks in Spain (unless it's been installed by a Brit) so you can easily get hydraulic locks that cause other drains such as baths and showers to gurgle when toilets are flushed.

Pete.

Hello, can anyone let me know if there is any tool rental available as driving over with materials and tools seems to be a exspensive trip.
I'd be looking to rent tile cutter, possible cordless etc?

Thanks.
