Looking for someone to repair Sony soundbase

Postby Shiva » Wed Dec 13, 2017 12:05 pm

We have a relatively new Sony HT-XT100 sound base which developed a fault - it continuously cycles through inputs. From internet searching it appears that the problem likely to be that it needs a capacitor replaced, apparently a recognised fault. We had brought it from UK so couldn't just return it ( this happened within six months of purchase..., not delighted with Sony, but there you go...). Does anyone know of a place that could do this repair or indeed any among you ( Talk Quesada is full of experts! ) able to fix something like this for a reasonable fee ? I have zilch electronic skills...

Have you tried this
If the input of the A/V receiver or home theater system is changing automatically:

Go into the menu of the A/V receiver or home theatre system.
Set the HDMI Control setting to Off.

Thanks jpeg, good suggestion, but that's not the problem as it is not connected up to anything but is still cycling...

Did you try it
it does not matter if not connected to HDMI
I can not find any reference to faulty capacitors and I repair most HiFi and TVs

Hello: l
Because UK is on EU by the moment I think Sony will fix it on guarantor. Did you contact with them to ask?

Electrical goods bought in UK are only guaranteed for 12 months and are not covered by EU rules but are still covered by the faulty goods act if you can get it back to UK

OK tried again and it we were able to switch HDMI off but to no avail. For good measure we switched Bluetooth off too. But no change. From reading various reviews the issue appeared to be one affecting 2015 Sony sound bars. Eg and re the capacitor see here https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/home-ci ... 018#M11751 But thanks for your help, was worth asking.

I found in a website this instructions, I hope it works for you:

"Change the batteries in your control and the problem should be fixed.
Don't try just removing them as the unit will still try to pair.
New batteries should do the job."

Thanks for suggestion, tried it , but alas no joy. Pretty sure its a hardware fault. Not worth hassle of bringing back to UK, but maybe we'll find someone here to take a look at it, it was quite expensive originally. Only buying these things here in Spain now!
