Residencia help please!

Postby DianeD » Tue Dec 15, 2015 7:44 pm

hello. My Husband and I would like to apply for Residencia but not sure if this is something we could mange ourselves or if we need to pay someone? We do understand a little Spanish but not that much! What do we need? An agent in Quesada has told us that we need a Spanish Bank account with €600 each going in each month? Is this true? We have our NIE numbers. Any advice gratefully received please! Thanks. Diane

If you go in the town hall/ Municiple centre in Quesada and ask in there they will tell you how to go about it.

When taking out residency, you need to prove you have comprehensive medical cover (either provided by you home country using the S1 or private). You also have to prove you have sufficient funds to support yourself without being a burden on the social security.
Lots of "Chinese whispers" go around about have a certain amount going into the bank but that is not true. You should show you have access to funds to support yourself but this does not have to be in a Spanish bank. Indeed, even a credit card with a fairly good limit would suffice. You can show you have savings in a UK bank which will also be enough.
It is quite difficult to do this on your own. The best place is at the Orihuela Costa town hall in Playa Flamenca where they will give you a list (in English) of what you require. As there is no actual National Police presence there anymore, they cannot issue you the card straight away and you will have to go back to collect the card after a couple of weeks.
The police stations at Alicante and Elche will issue them straight away but they aren't happy about using English.
You need to get the EX18 application form and you complete it like this:
Translation of form EX18 notes:
(1) Marque el cuadro que proceda. PASaporte/Número de Identificación Fiscal
Mark the box as applicable (Passport or NIE number)
(2) Marque el cuadro que proceda. Hombre / Mujer
Mark the box as applicable (H=hombre=male. M=mujer=female)
Fill in the date of birth using 2 numbers for the day, 2 numbers for the month, then 4 for the year – in this format: 23/06/1966
(4) Marque el cuadro que proceda. Soltero / Casado / Viudo / Divorciado / Separado
Mark the box Soltero=Single, Casado=Married, Viudo=Widowed, Divorciada=Divorced, Seperado=Separated.
You don’t need to fill this in if doing it yourself. If you are applying for a child put Madre (Mother) or Padre (Father)
Only fill this in if someone else is applying on behalf of another. I’m not sure why they have this when application has to be made in person.(?)
Under Law 11/2004 and 4th Additional Provision of Royal Decree 557/2011 the bodies and colectives of persons that, due to their financial or technical capabilities, professional status or other documented reasons, are guaranteed access to necessary tecnological mediums, must receive notification via this medium.
(8) Marque el cuadro que corresponda
If this is your first application mark the 2 squares on the left.
If you have been resident for more than 5 years mark the 2 boxes on the right.
(Residencia permanente AND Residencia continuada en España durante 5 años) Also fill in the box above: date you came to live in Spain in the format as in note 3.

There are several companies who will do this for you but you must attend the police station in person.

Very helpful Marcliff, thank you. I was definitely told that we would need a Spanish Bank account? We are due to open one tomorrow but now I'm not sure if it's necessary, or a benefit?

These are the real requirements. Not necessary to have a Spanish bank account but definitely advisable to pay taxes, electric bills, water and so on.

Well, as we are renting we don't pay our utilities direct but I guess it might be worth having an account anyway. I'm a little confused with the healthcare aspect. My husband is a pensioner. If we became residents here and, for whatever reason had to return to the UK in the future, would we be able to use the NHS still? I'm reading conflicting information and I'm confusedM

Hi, we used a really helpful guy called Malcolm to do lots of official stuff. I think he is fairly local to you. We obviously had to pay for his services, but his fees were reasonable. Private message me if you'd like his phone number. Re bank accounts, ours does not attract any charges, but to be eligible we have to have 600euros monthly going into the account. That's maybe the account you were told about.

You need to get expert advice about everything. It may cost but better safe than sorry especially about Health. Help Vegabaja have lots of leaflets about living in Spain on their website.
