Hi Dot,
I remember taking our house deeds to get the padron but I'm not sure if it was a copy of our deeds as I keep copies in Spain of certain things and originals in the UK. I wouldn't think it matters as they only take a copy of part of it to get the Padron.
PS. I have a new Tablet which I use sometimes and it has been set up with a spell checker that I'm not used to, so if you see anything strange in my posts please bear with me. I just checked the post above and it said " I keep copies in Spain of certain things and originals in the Shepherds pie " - Where did that come from? LoL
Sorry to deviate from this topic but it made me laugh so much !

Officially, you can no longer go empadronamiento (the padron) unless you are a resident. You should show your green resident card. Rojales were still allowing non-residents to sign on even though they shouldn't.
It is a register of those who "habitually" reside in the area.
No, we didn't need house deeds to go on the padron. We didn't even have them when we signed on. Proof of address is required, though, as shown on your NIE or resident card.

I think the basic rule of thumb should you be going to do anything official in Spain is...
TAKE EVERYTHING!!!
Padron, residencia, passport, escritura, drivers license, dog licence, television license, birth certificate, library card, milk monitor badge, cycling proficiency certificate, 100 meters swimming cert, cub scout badge... basically .... EVERYTHING..

Hi to get the Sip you sign on to the Padron without being on the Padron you can not get the Sip! we went to renew the Sip and were told to renew the Padron first and show a coppy befor the Sip could be renewed, we asked the same question about non residents signing on and were told it is beneficial to the comunity and to encourage others to do it.
