Tips for bed linen and towels for property in Spain.

Tips for bed linen and towels for property in Spain.

Postby Jan » Thu Dec 19, 2013 2:38 pm

I just had a thought which may help some of you kitting out your properties in Spain for the first time.

I wish someone had told me not to buy white bed linen and white towels. There is a brown dust that gets everywhere in Spain and even falls with the rain after a particularly dry spell. It gets on external walls and patio's and no matter how many times one cleans inside the house it will also settle on any surfaces inside too. A white sheet or towel will end up with brown marks if it blows in the wind and touches anywhere or falls on the floor by accident and it's hard to get the marks out - They never stay very white.

I am gradually changing our linen to cream, beige or darker colours and our towels to dark beige or brown. They stay looking nice then but it's a costly mistake to make in the beginning!

Just thought this could help anyone thinking about what colours to buy.

I "inherited" a lot of unused towels when I bought the property - unused probabably because the owner soon found out the perils of white!! Once our house was entirely for our use I bought cream and brown, too, Jan!!

I found some perfect colour towels, in Asda, a couple of years ago - A lightish plain rusty brown, almost the same colour as that reddish soil in Spain that causes all the trouble. So I now have co-ordinating towels and dust.

I've those for the kitchen from Dunelm, colour is terracotta! :text-lol:

Yes Terracotta would be a good colour, mine are a lighter shade more like a wet sand colour but still doesn't show those dreaded brown marks.

Why not dye your white towels, cheaper than buying new!

Yes, I did the same, as white towels seemed such a good idea until that dreaded brown dust got on them!

You are all so right about white linen , mats n towels. I don't even but white t shirts or white linen trousers anymore, the colour deteriorates so quickly.
