Death Café meeting in Quesada

Thank you for your comments, Mundo. I must just clarify that we are not part of a group as such but will follow a suggested format to evoke conversation. The Death Cafe idea is to bring together people who wish to discuss ideas, wishes or source information. Which we hope will be particularly helpful here in Spain where there can be lots of misconceptions.
Will you be attending? It sounds like you would be a good participant.

Let's put it this way" nobody is left on top". all the discussion in the world isn't going to make it go away and I think it's an age thing and people generally start thinking in those terms anyway as you reach a certain age. More should be discussed about those left behind than those departed.

.. Denise and Maria.. no thanks... but I hope all goes well..

Toot.. you are right of course, funerals are not for the dead... they are for the family and friends.. and unless you have lived an "interesting" life there will be someone left behind who will be sad and shocked at the death. If you could help them in this very difficult time, surely you would?....

My mother left me a note for when she died... said what funeral director to use, what kind of casket, what hymns to sing, no flowers but send money to designated charity... where the will was, which solicitor to use etc etc...

It made the whole sad process so much easier...

Death is inevitable.. it is easier to talk about it before you die than afterwards..

Tootandploot ... That's it exactly, the more you can discuss your wishes and know the options (especially here where misconceptions are abundant) the easier it is for those left behind. :)

Coffee Cake and Chat

Postby DeniseMaria » Wed Nov 16, 2016 3:17 pm

COFFEE CAKE & INFORMATIVE CHAT ..... The Death Cafe ..... An opportunity to chat over complimentary coffee and cake about one of the biggest taboo subjects in today's society. Talking about death isn't going to make it happen any sooner but it may just help those who are left behind when they lose you. This is an informative lighthearted discussion group to exchange thoughts, ideas, and experiences, followed by a question and answer session with experts and professionals on hand. There are many misconceptions surrounding funerals here in Spain, this will be a chance to dispel some of the myths. There is absolutely NO selling involved but plenty of information, coffee and cake being given away! As places are limited please PM me and reserve your place Wednesday 23rd November 11.00 - 12.30 The Clubhouse (La Marquesa Golf) Quesada

Death Cafe

Postby DeniseMaria » Sat Nov 26, 2016 11:35 am

For all other forum readers, I thought I should just report back on the Death Cafe held on 23rd November at The Clubhouse Quesada. I am pleased to say that we had an amazing turnout of some 40 people. We all enjoyed coffee and cake and the conversation was flowing from the word go. We had a great opportunity to exchange concerns, experiences and to ask questions of the professionals. There were representatives from, the town hall, the Help Association, funeral directors from Grupo ASV and myself to answer some light hearted and other questions that raise concern. All questions were relevant when dealing with the funeral process here in Spain. The only downside was that we ran out of time. From the positive response and subsequent enquiries, we shall definitely be holding another!
