NIE needs updating urgently

I have just bought a new car - had to wait 6 months, but finally its arrived and I'm due to collect it tomorrow!
Garage asked for my NIE, padron, proof of tax payments etc. which I supplied.
BUT my NIE form is 16 years old and they've said traffico will not accept it as I need the green one!?
How & where can i get one quickly?

If your NIE is that old I thought it did not need renewing only the later ones that have a three month expiary! ask Amanda who deals with Trafico daily she may be able to help.

Yes, that's what I thought, and it's been OK for everything else like when I bought new car six years ago from same garage.... But they're adamant.
So I think I will phone Amanda.. Thanks

Are you sure they don't mean residency cards? That's a green card, not the NIE. The NIE number is with you for life so wouldn't need a certificate whereas the old residency cards were renewable.

I phoned Amanda & she has said that they mean the green residencia certificate.
I've never called it an NIE certificate, but she assures me that it basically has replaced the old yellow NIE one.
So I have emailed that to my garage and hope that is correct.
