Agost is worth a visit
It is about 45min from Quesada inland of Alicante
Agost is famous for pottery and has some great places to see pottery making
There is also a market on thursday mornings and a great garden center
It is very Spanish with few expats
A traditional piece of pottery that has been made for hundreds of years in Agost is the Botijo which is a water vessel that cools the water inside by solar power
It is made of a pours white clay, so when filled with water and left in the sun water will evaporate through the clay and cool the contents
A version is even made for holding water for pets to drink ( we have one for our dog and only need to fill it once a week )

film set return of the seven
by cssolar » Tue Feb 11, 2014 8:22 am
For all you wild west fans
Agost was the set for Return of the Seven filmed in 1966.
Unfortunately the actual film set that was built for the film no longer exists , but the mountain back drop can easily be recognized from the film .
This is a link to a very interesting site http://www.western-locations-spain.com/r7/index.htm
Not many people know that such a classic film was filmed so near , worth a visit to Agost , dont forget your cowboy hat n guns !

Thank you - Just looked to see if David's Coaches or Rosa Tours do a day trip there but it's not on David's coaches website and Rosa Tours don't have it on their latest brochure. That's a shame as it sounds like it would be an interesting trip to go on!

Hi Jeremy, yes its worth a look, remember Thursday is market day,
Jan , no coaches here ! its still like the wild west , we dont get many strangers in town !
Any visiting Foreigners walking about in Summer clothes at this time of year will stand out !
Another interesting thing here is the Via Verde , which is a disused rail way that is now a path for walkers and mountain bikes , fantastic scenery here is the link http://www.alicantenatura.es/via-verde-agost-maigmo/ its not steep , easy to walk or cycle - car park in Agost so its great to cycle up hill until you have had enough - then just roll back to the car park !
