Pub Quiz Nights

Pub Quiz Nights

Postby RogerB » Tue Aug 07, 2012 3:20 am

I am a keen quizzer who is looking for a good pub quiz on Wednesday evenings, please. 'Good' means well-run, with no iPad, etc, use allowed, and a convivial atmosphere!

A fellow team member has fallen-out with the aggressive QM at Half Way House, so we are looking for an alternative.

Recommendations for other nights, except Saturday to Tuesday, inclusive, would also be welcomed.

We don't mind travelling a bit, but my 'mate' lives in Dolores, so nothing too far South, please.

Thanks .... I can recommend Dan & Trudy's quizzes at Los Naciones on Mondays (9pm) .... and anywhere else!

(Coopers Arms on Thurs is not recommended ...rowdy, rude and poorly run ... nor Bull Flanagans in Quesada/Rojales. Mini-Golf on Thursdays is OK-ish!)

I don't know any others Roger but I am quite shocked to hear that people use Ipads etc., that's cheating...now I know why we never win...I always knew that there must be a reason! ;) :geek:

I was asked to make up the numbers on a team at The Club (they hold/used to hold regular quizzes there). Talk about competitive!! Never again. When all the answers were being read out they were religiously noted by my team, and then there was an inquest into who said what!!Nightmare!!

You were just unlucky in your choice of team-mates, Sandra .....we don't all take it quite so seriously!

Was that in the days when Nigel ran it? We went there regularly for several months and enjoyed it, until he left and it all fell to pieces.

Well, we tried Hoggies in San Luis, for a few weeks, but the attendance is pitiful, (possibly because) the questions ultra-obscure, and the prizes ridiculously large(FIVE botts of wine!) for such a small quiz. They are running themselves into the ground!
We were lucky enough to win the quiz AND the jackpot the first week (about 100 Euros + the wine!), but it isn't much fun ...only 10 people in 3 teams last week.

So we are still looking ....now we hear that Naciones will shut next week, so we are now looking for a Monday as well ....may try Claptons, although it is a bit far for our fellow team-members who like to have a drink!
And Championes in Benimar is, I believe, up for sale, so that's another Monday night option gone, it seems.

SO STILL OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS! Thanks
Roger

Yes, thanks, Glyn.
Although the owners are good friends (and that despite our having bought our house from them , as 'delrico'!!), we movced-on from their quiz, one cold December evening ...we were put out 'in the tent', with not-wonderful heating and lighting, and nearly frozz to death! Also, the QM calls himself Dave The Joker, another lovely fella, but IMO contravenes the Trade Descriptions Act, and takes for ever to get through it!

We then went to The Club(Quesada), ...warm, bright and briskly run by Nigel....we really enjoyed that, but Nigel went-off to the USA on his hols, and it was left to the barman/chef to read-out mumble the Qs, which just didn't work for us, and, sadly, Nigel decided not to take the helm again when he returned. So we tried a few Thursday places(all pretty awful in one way or another), and are currently going to the Hillside Club at La Marina, which is quite good, although a bit of a hike from Quesada, which I don't mind, for a good, fun quiz.

So, still looking for WEDNESDAYS, and, from next week, MONDAYS, too(may try Claptons).
