IBERSWITCH - Electricity provider

IBERSWITCH - Electricity provider

Postby Jan » Tue Aug 20, 2013 11:44 am

Hi,
Has anyone done a switch to Iberswitch electricity from the UK? I am thinking about switching even though being non-resident our bills are in total quite low, they still seem quite expensive considering we are only there a few months a year.

Was it easy? Did you need to sort anything out while in Spain?

Be interested to know any experiences of switching as we don't want problems.

Hi Jan,

I've been with Iberswitch for over a ye4ar now and they are very efficient. You ring them and someone will come ou8t to see you to take details, and t6hey do evry thing for you.

They give you the company that has the cheapest tariff.

Hello Hazel,
I didn't realise they are a comparison company. Does that mean they choose a company that will be the best price considering your personal circumstances? Also why do they charge a fee each month?

yes there is a small fee every month, something like 10% of the saving you are making, normally 3 ro 4 euro so not the end of the world. Mike

Hi Mike,

I just wondered why they charge a monthly fee to the consumer? Comparison sites like 'uswitch' in the UK probably get a commission from the company but not from the customer. Just seems strange for them to charge a fee once you've switched.

Hi Jan

As you are non resident and say that your bills are
not very big, you will find that the fee that Iberswitch
charge will not cover the savings that you make.

There is very little difference in prices between
the various electricity suppliers here in Spain and
the Iberswitch rates that my neighbours are on which are
much higher than Iberdrola.

You should be on the TUR rate with Iberdrola
where this month the unit/kwh cost is .124985 cents
or like us on dual tariff .150108 and .05863

The bad news for all low users is that the standing
charge has increased around 34 percent from August.

Hower the unit rate has reduced. Therefore for a low user this will mean even higher bills.

My advise is don't change to Iberswitch.

Deregulation of electricity is still very recent in
Spain and because of the huge debts in this Industry
there is not enough margin for the new supplier
to pay for gaining a new customer, as in the UK,
Like U Switch etc.

Iberswitch make their money by charging this monthly fee, how ever what are your savings compared to?

I am certain not the rates that I have posted above.

Would be interested to hear from Iberswitch customers
as what their current kwh cost is.

Hello Milor,

:text-welcomewave: Welcome to Talkquesada.

Thank you for your advice & the information. I had an idea that it may not be worth switching, as a non-resident, but just thought I would look into it.

Our bill which has just come in for the last two months is 72,33 euro and just under 4 weeks of that we were in Spain. I think the bills are around 45 to 50 euro for two months when we are not there these days, which is more than they were before the price hikes over the last year or so.

We don't have air conditioning and rarely go to Quesada in winter when heating may be needed, so our actual usage is pretty low.

Thanks again for your help. I think we will stay with Iberdrola for now.

I'm with Iberdrola, but my bills are not as high as yours, Jan. When I am not in Spain the electricity to my house is switched off - so if there were to be usage shown on my bill I would know that there was a problem!! I have aircon - which I have going in the summer, and it heats on the not so sunny days! I have on-line access to Iberdrola - and each time that a bill is produced it comes to my on-line mail box, so I can check if there is unusual usage.

My bills are quite high for a single-user household, I guess, as I am all-electric, and use the aircon, TV and PC a lot, and the ovens, vacuum, lighting and hot water/washing machine a bit less!
I have been 'Iberswitched' for about a year, I guess.

The monthly charge is, if I recall correctly, 30% of what they have saved you (c/w Iberdrola?), or 3.50 + IVA Euros, whichever is the larger amount.
You don't get much leccy for 4 Euros these days!

Note to self: Check bank statements to see how much they have been deducting lately!

Hello Sandra,

We don't switch our electric off when we leave Spain.

We have only recently signed up for online billing so will be able to compare bills soon.
