Rumour has it that it's the new Lidl's store. Apparantly the one by Consume is closing down.

It seems that all the Lidl stores are being revamped. The one where I live was closed down and a temp. One erected around the corner, took about 6mths for a new bigger store and car par. The one at Consum seems quite small, so maybe correct?

Surprised there's no signage yet to say it's coming! Usually the billboards go up before anything else.

Sooooo. Does anyone have any idea what's happening to the old one?

No idea yet and we haven't heard or seen anything about it, despite having a property close to the original Lidls and not far from the 'supposed' new lidls.

I would be surprised if Lidls would build another store only a short walk from the one now and in a 'not quite' so easily accessible position and on a relatively small plot (unless they are buying the finca and land next door??)

The Lidls near Consum is what I would call a 'normal' size for a Lidl store. I have a number of Lidls stores near where I live in London and they are generally all about that size, so the reasoning that they need a bigger site doesn't really hold water IMO. However as we always say on here, anything is possible in Spain even if it does seems strange!

There are a couple of Lidls in Torrevieja that are very close together (the one next to Habaneras and the one on Avda Cortes Valencianas. However, these two seem very close for what is really a smallish place.
Went past it today and I hope the entrances are going to be thought out first as it is quite tight along that road especially as I don't think the street lighting along there has worked since I've been here. Probably a bit expensive to build a slip road into it from the CV905.
Be funny if it turned out to be an Aldi, though.
And it's only a week since it was simply a bit of land being cleared and less than 3 weeks since it had a house (hovel) and trees on it. I've taken longer to build something out of Lego.

I'm not an engineer but I'd say that the structure appears too substantial to be a supermarket. Aren't they usually built on a steel frame and thin steel metal walls?
