It's a write off a write-off that has been repaired! the insurance co decide that it doesn't make financial sense to repair a Cat D car but these cars can be repaired and put back on the road safely.

Cat D....is a marker put on a car that has been accident damaged and written of by the insurance. As generally it isn't economical to repair. Once repaired it doesn't need to be declared as previously being a Cat D. UNLIKE a Cat C. This once repaired stays on the V5. So when Registering on Spanish plates does not need declaring.

There are actually 4 categories of "write off" and Cat D is the lowest
Cat A is very significant and the car can only be scrapped
Cat B is also significant and the car cannot be repaired for road use but the vehicle can be dismantled and used for spare (which an A can't)
Cat C & D are economical repairs- C is a car that has sustained more damage and will usually need to be inspected post repair before DVLA will issue a replacement reg doc
Cat D is usually less damage and in some cases can be minor damage
They are however accident damaged
