These are processionary caterpillars that drop from their shelter. They then form a procession that can be in excess of two metres long. They are particularly dangerous to dogs but also to humans. They will shoot spores when they are under threat and these cause the tongue to swell when inhaled. You need to seek help, pronto, if you come into contact with them, they can be fatal to a dog. So be aware. They seem to be around much earlier in the year now, I don´t know if this is due to climate change but it was rare to see them before March, that is not the case now.

If no-one's every come across these before, they resemble the 'nice' orange & black hairy caterpillars we used to see and handle, as kids. in the UK Summer (when we had one). Don't be fooled into thinking the Spanish variety are the same - they're certainly not.

Definately in the park in Benimar & around the

top where Construfutur are building in Benijofar
