It's been previously mentioned that 'Aldi' is in fact two independent companies. The Aldi that operates in Spain and some other countries is not the one that operates in another group of countries that includes the UK.

Aldi UK has a very similar business model to Lidl - very successful in the UK.

The Aldi that operates in Spain has different branding and product lines. Not sure how well it's doing over here, but I'm pretty sure it couldn't compete in the UK.
