SUMA is the department responsible for taking local taxes in Alicante province. We normally only come across them for IBI (council tax) vehicle tax, tax on economic activities and the plus valia which is the increase on value of land. It also administers the tax on vehicle access (where you pay to keep the access to your property free of traffic or "Vado Permanente" licenses.
In most cases, the two most used will be the council tax and the vehicle annual tax.

The council tax is due in the period August to September with a date in October as being the final day for it to be paid. Late payment after this final date will attract a fine. Posters are put up in the town halls and urbanisations giving the latest date of payment.

Vehicle annual tax is due Mar to April with a date normally in May giving the final date of payment. However, the tax is worked out at how much the local area will need in the coming year to keep roads repaired etc and can take some time to assess. For the last two years (at least) the latest date for payment has been the second week in June. Agian, posters are put up with the latest dates.

Whoever owns the property on 1st January each year is liable for the tax. Therefore, in the original post which is now some time ago, the owners would not have been responsible for the IBI in 2013 but should have received a bill in about September 2014 for that years tax.
The same with a car. If you buy a car in, say, March, the previous owners would have been responsible for the tax for the entire year even though they only owned the car for a few months in that year.

The SUMA office for this area is in Rojales on the street by the church on Joaquin Gonzales 3.
It is best to set up a direct debit with them to avoid any penalties for late payment.
They also have a very helpful website at suma.es, a lot of which is in English.
Although SUMA deal with Alicante province, each area will pay different rates of taxes.

Depends on type, diesel or petrol, size of engine, emission rating and so on.
However, a 1.6 petrol SUV cost me €46.20 this year for this area.

Hi
You can go on line to the SUMA Office and check all your payment and when they are due.
We tend to pay our SUMA this way, although we do have a DD organized, but in the past when we were in the bank the cashier asked us if it was OK to pay your SUMA ?? thats why we now go on line so we dont miss a payment.
