Device to save on Air Con

Depends on the make of the unit. It's always worth just powering off from the switchboard and leaving for a couple of mins before switching on again to see if that . Some require a reset code which can be a pain to enter especially when the code is kept by the manufacturer. The error usually shows up as a comms error between outdoor and indoor units not talking to each other.

I found Jim on FB and actually know him but didn't realise he did these air con saving devices. He came to fit a device next to each unit
The one downstairs was programmed to work against the unit and remote control and then fitted to the ceiling,
However we had to replace the unit on the landing some years ago (still Hiyasu though) and Jim could not get the device and remote control (new one to match new unit) to marry up as it didn't seem to have a different stop/start signal so the device could recognise it...... something like that!!!
So we only have the saving device downstairs which is still a help.... but we will have to hide the cord so the ceiling fan isn't used or the device will pick that up as ' motion'!!
But I really want to get the upstairs unit sorted as that's probably left on all night for sleeping and using too much energy.
Jim suggested a universal remote ( as you can buy for a TV) but has anyone had this problem before and any other suggestions please???
Thank you.

Just to clarify. Does your upstairs unit have a remote that works?

Have you tried swapping the device?

Possibly try removing the battery from the device and leaving it for a few mins so it totally forgets the old signal and then trying to recode again.

The device will normally have a night time mode that stops the stop signal. Make sure that's unset.

Diatsu units had a similar problem with not recognising the code and they are similar models.

Hi Linkwater
Yes, the remote works with the actual air con unit upstairs. Jim put new batteries in it as they were missing!! Joys of letting.
He also tried the remote control from downstairs but no good... and we even got the remote from my 2 bed house we rent out also.... but just would not marry up with the 'saving device'.
Jim said they work on 99.9 % of units so we seem to be unlucky!!!

OK, Sorry for going over everything but am I correct in thinking your upstairs energy saver has not been swapped with the downstairs one? Ideally the upstairs energy saver should still work on the downstairs air con unit. If not, the problem is with the energy saver. If it works downstairs then you are unlucky with the new upstairs air con unit. I also have a spare movement detector if you'd like to try it.

Hi Linkwater
I'm confused.com!!! But we have the energy saving device all matched up to downstairs air con unit.
He then spent ages trying to get the 2nd 'device' set up to the upstairs unit and remote. That is when we tried using different remote controls to see if they were universal, bug no joy.
He didn't try using a new device though to see if the problem was with the device that didn't work!!
I'm sorry if this is becoming more confusing!!! Jim was pressing so many buttons to try and sort it I wouldn't know how to set one up now!!
We are going back to UK on Tuesday and it would have been good to get it sorted.
We are on Dona Pepa if you live nearby and have an inkling to set them up. But he took away the upstairs device anyway so we only paid for the one downstairs.

I'll PM you if thats ok. I do have a spare one that I initially used to test them out but decided not to fit them. At least it will rule out a problem with the device itself.
