Electric Water Heaters
Electric Water Heaters
by white_hart » Sun Feb 12, 2017 3:49 pm
Considering changing our electric water heater for a larger and hopefully more efficient one. Mrs White_Hart likes a bath, and the existing one doesn't hold enough water, so I guess we'll be looking for a 100 litre one!!!
Any recommendations for the more efficient makes (and yes - I know none of them are going to be "really" efficient") and any ideas what would be a "reasonable" cost for installation?
Thanks!

Have you considered an instantaneous gas boiler?
We swapped from an 80 litre electric boiler to a gas boiler ad we love it. It fires-up when hot water is needed, so you don't store large quantities of hot water. I like to have a bath occasionally and it can cope with that with no problems.

Hi Pete
I'm not entirely sure what that would involve. There's no gas supply to our urb (afaia), so I'm not sure it'd be an option!

White hart you do not need gas supply boilers run off gas bottles i.e. Butane boiler connected to bottle via regulator we had our gas boiler installed by don de also purchased from don de, will get contract from Cespa who supply regulator.
Instant hot water all the time just by turning on taps. So more efficient and so much cheaper than eliectric

Our setup uses bottled Propane rather than Butane. The advantage of Propane is that the pressure remains more consistent from full to empty, so you can use an automatic changeover valve. This has two bottles connected to it and automatically switches seamlessly from one bottle to the other. That way, you don't find yourself getting out of the shower covered in shampoo to go and change the gas bottle!
The gas boiler is much smaller than an electric water heater. Changing from electric to gas has given us much more space in our utility room allowing us to fit-in a tumble dyer in where we previously didn't have the room.

I agree with Peteknight, I changed from electric to gas a few years ago after constantly having to wait for the electric boiler having to reheat the tank after the stepdaughter drained all the hot water at each visit to the bathroom. I find it absolutely fantastic, turn on taps and instant hot water and plenty of it. I was going to ask where you got your heater from, as I want to upgrade mine, but you answered that as well. Cheers guys

electric water heater,TIEN 21 or Hnos Garcia both do a supply and fit service and are local to Quasada/Torrevieja
Pete surely two gas bottles take up more room than a water boiler in a utility or do you store them outside with the supply coming thru the wall to the boiler, was it a big job to fit the gas boiler drilling for wall for vent, have considerd this option my self,is it cheaper to run than electric water heater?
