Gas central Heating

Re: Gas central Heating

Central heating is absolutely brilliant. Came over here last January and froze to death - no more. It's not that expensive and certainly no dearer than using electric to warm the place up. The combi boiler for heating the water is cheaper than using electric as well and that's in use all year. Now I need to persuade the wife that a log burner is a necessary purchase as well!

Good to hear that. I thought it might be more expensive than electric but there's no doubt it must be nice to have, in those few cold months, especially for Southern Softies like me.

Love our gas central heating, radiator in every room makes the house so cosy. We haven't used our log burner since, no more mess!!! It cost less than using portable gas heaters in the last 12 months.

You will loose heat no matter what you need as you say Jan the houses aren't built for the cold. Garsyl we have a log burner now, and it's lovely BUT although it heats it also throws out sooty dust, which lays on everything and it's in the air so in your lungs which doesn't help if you're asthmatic. I would seriously look at pellet burners, good, heat, cleaner, and no log storage issues! However I still don't know is there gas in the are where IM buying Ave Gijon? Is there anybody that lives there that can let me know or knows who I can contact to find out!!! Thanks

Could anybody with a gas combi boiler please tell me how much gas they use a week as I seem to be using quite a lot and I not have it on in the morning for a couple of hours and in the evening for about four hours and of course a couple of showers. Thanks

HI AnnieP,
Avda Gijon is a very long road and I have a house along that road and so far don't know anyone who has gas piped in and haven't seen any work beong done in the road so far or heard of anyone with central heating along there . However as it is a long road there may be some being done somewhere. Hopefully others who know the road well may tell you.

Jan.

I don't think there is. I drive that road regularly and haven't seen any installation work going on. Loads being done on the road leading up Coopers and the houses behind that but I haven't seen anything on this side as yet.

One thing I would recommend is to get your windows and window frames looked at. Our frames had a gap between the frame and the wall. You couldn't see it but you could certainly feel it. I have used sealant down the frames in all the rooms. I also use that secondary glazing film from now onwards, especially in the bedroom with the big French windows. Best thing would be to have proper double glazing fitted as the ones normally used have a very small gap between the panes.

Thank you both, we viewed houses near Coopers and one did. Have natural gas, and was hoping it might have been near us! Never mind plan B! Lol thanks Marcliff we will check the windows. Thinking ahead to the summer, do you get problems with mosquitos ( more than normal) due to the lake? We aren't as far down as that, but by, I think, a park and as yet undeveloped poligono.
