I changed from electric water heating to an instantaneous gas heater using bottled gas last year. I love the gas system and would never consider swapping back.
I decided to go for an automatic changeover valve that switches from one bottle to another. This works really well and seamlessly gives you a continuous supply of gas to the boiler. These changeover valves only work with Propane gas. Both Repsol (orange bottles) and CEPSA (grey bottles) do Propane bottles, so choose a supplier that has an outlet near to you.
If you go for a one bottle system without a changeover valve then there's a chance that you'll run out if gas whilst in the middle of taking a shower, which might result in a sense of humour failure!

The changeover was part of some other work we had done, but the gas boiler sells for just over €200 in Leroy Merlin.
We had the changeover done quite soon after buying the property, so don't really have a proper comparison of before and after costs.
For us the main advantage is hot water whenever we want it. If 4 people wanted to take showers before, the hot water would run out part way through and we'd have to wait for it to heat-up again. Now we get the hot water we need when we need it, without having the cost of heating water unnecessarily.
We also achieved a considerable space saving. The old 80L electric boiler was on the wall in a utility room and took-up a lot of space. The new boiler is in roughly the same place and is very slim, so we now have space to put a tumble drier on top of the washing machine in the same room.
