Can anyone advise please, I am in spain with a right hand drive car I know if I'm here longing than 6 months I should change to Spanish plates, but I have been quoted €1200 upwards for the change. My question is this once I have had the change of plates is my car worth anything more with Spanish plates but still right hand drive, or still worthless as it is with all the dealers when they see it with gb plates and red.regards

The car will not be worth any more money.
We had our right hand drive car changed to Spanish plates last year.didn’t cost anything like your quotation.
If you want any more info pm me and I will give you contact details of the person I used. He speaks perfect English having worked in London for 11 years

I changed to Spanish plates, not cheap. The car is then worthless your best bet is to sell it back in England, fly back and buy locally, New if you can afford it. Second-hand Spanish cars are VERY VERY overpriced and have ridiculous mileage.

About three years ago, I brought my car from England. At that time I was told, that I had to get the British number plate changed to Spanish number plates within two months of our arrival in Spain. Therefore, I managed to find out that Graham Shelton helps people to get their number plates changed. So I used him. To get the ITV (MOT as in England) and getting the head lights adjusted and to changed the number plate, it only cost me about €800 . So if you are interested, talk to Graham Shelton on 605319889 or his assistant Leigh on 966 753 375. I am sure they will be able to help you. Good luck.

Graham Shelton has retired and Leigh has taken over. Brilliant service, everything sorted easily.

Spanish plates on a RHD car might give it some appeal to some English buyers but it will still be worth peanuts and you'd have to practically give it away to get anybody Spanish interested.

BTW if you are resident then you are not permitted to sell a foreign registered car, not saying it doesn't happen but legally it's a no no.

I changed my Mondeo to Spanish plates 14 years ago.The cost was only around 200€ and involved a couple of trips to Alicante since I did it myself. The system has changed a few years ago and costs a lot more now.
The car is worth as much as any other 2001 Mondeo however on a recent trip to the UK I was offered £2000 partly because it is shiny red but mostly because the guy thought it would keep its foreign plate. It is worth barely a cent in Spain but it is cheap motoring.
