Anyone ever drove to Gibraltar from mainland Spain, and is there any problems crossing the border and the best time of the day to go? been told its very hard to do this with the Spanish.

cheers Pete.

We parked up in La Linea and walked over. That was some time ago but the traffic queues both ways were very long but walking through was very quick.
I was told it can take up to 3 hours to cross the border at peak times or if the Spanish are having a crack down on cigarettes or petrol.
A number 5 bus runs very regularly from the border crossing to the centre of town and back again or there are plenty of taxis.

We were planning on a similar trip last year, but staying 2 nights in Marbella and taking a day trip to Gibraltar with Viator. They will pick you up from your hotel and drop you back at the end of the day, costs about £40 each but the hotels in Marbella are much cheaper.

Hi,
If you go to Gibralter make sure you take £ sterling with you, as using euro makes everything more expensive.
Plus Saturday afternoons most shops & stores close for half day, unless things have altered in the last couple of years.

Also, be prepared for alcoholic spirits to be sold via 25ml optics in bars & pubs, as in the UK. That goes for Spanish brandies too!!

Its the queues of cars leaving Gib that can be a
Problem - it can take hours.
