how to find the date my house was built
how to find the date my house was built
by Shirleyslater » Mon Mar 27, 2017 9:34 am
Hi
Can anyone tell me how I can find out when my house was built.
The house next door has recently been sold and is having extensive exterior work done which includes chopping off the old plaster. I am worried that it has asbestos in it.
The dust from the works are all over my garden furniture and in my pool and I am worried that if it has asbestos in it, we are breathing it in. At the moment living here is horrendous. We have jackhammers going all day from 8:30 until about 7pm and metal cutting equipment.
I don't object to the building work, most of us have had that done, but the jackhammer and metal cutting noise is absolutely awful.
We cannot even sit in out garden because the noise is so loud that we cant hear each other speak, we have to keep all doors and windows closed. The dust is even in my house.
I have tried to read if there is a limit to the works but there is nothing on line.

Hi, might help if you gave someone an idea of where your house is, what urbanisation, not the exact address.
Do your deeds not tell you the date? Have you asked at a local estate agents to see if they know roughly when they were constructed?
RE the asbestos, you breathe it in naturally anyway, but you are right to worry if they are disturbing asbestos then a lot more fibres are being released, ask the builders if they have dome an asbestos survey before starting the work, I am not sure that the rules are the same in Spain as they are supposed to be in the UK though.
The noise will cease eventually, one just has to put up with it unfortunately.

My house in in quesada.
We have resigned ourselves that there is nothing we can do about the noise and now we have our pool full of polystyrene from the builders taking the roof off.
All I can do is hope it finishes soon.
With regards to the date I cannot find it. I will ask the estate agent but in the meantime I am typing out my deeds myself and getting them translated online, so possibly have missed it.
I know the Spanish used asbestos a lot up to the 1980's, which made me start to look for the date of my own house because they were built at the same time apparantly.
After that I think they came under the same rules as the UK with regard to asbestos, will look into it further.
The builders are Russian I think so they do not speak any English which makes it a bit difficult.
Anyway, thanks for getting back.

Thanks for your reply as well Jim.
I live around Ave Nacionales.
We have spent such a lot of money doing the garden so that we can use it, so it is really upsetting that we cannot use it.
Hopefully, they will be finished when the summer is really here, otherwise it is up to the beach every day for us.

The description is there with sizes etc., but no date when it was built.
There is a slight reference to the registration of it with Almoradi with the numbers it is registered under in their books, but definitely no date when it was built.
I have looked all over the deeds because I was confident that it would be there, but it isn't.
I will contact the estate agent and see if they can tell me.
Thanks for the responses.
