I have seen my elderly neighbour suffer in pain waiting a year for a hip replacement in Spain. I don’t think it is as great as people like to make out. Just my humble opinion.

Agreed.

Not going into details as it's a personal matter suffice to say that my oh should be having regular eye checkups (retinopathy) and tests for circulation, after two years in Spain she's yet to get our doctor to refer her to either an optometrist or an endrochronologist.

Seriously considering going private.

Funnily enough, I did have a retinopathy check up in November but circulatory checks haven’t materialised.

Having type 2 diabetes in the UK, I had two check ups per year plus the retinopathy. Here, diabetic care comes across as, “Well, you know what to do, get on with it” and “Oh, if you think something’s wrong, see the nurse.

In the UK, I was given a prescription for urine test strips, heel balm for hardened skin, a blood sugar meter, lancets and test strips. Here, just the meter. No test strips or lancets, you have to buy them yourself.
