Well said Marcliff. Like I said it done and won't change.

Let's try to now get on with life and stop being delusional that brexit will somehow get reversed..

Marcliff is very correct in drawing attention to the 20 or 30 year view of the complexities.

If anyone relies solely on the research piece quoted
There are different views of what is happening (and will happen)

This (below) from the Sunday Telegraph concerning relative financial performances.

Liam Halligan - Comment
Anti-Brexit elites have nothing to say about looming European crisis
Until they get their way, rejoiners will keep talking down Britain and ignoring the blindingly obvious

………..The risk of a sudden “correction” across the eurozone’s financial markets is high, declared the President of the European Central Bank last week.

“Risks to financial stability have perceptibly increased since the beginning of this year,” said Christine Lagarde. “While the correction in asset prices has so far been orderly, the risk of a further and possibly abrupt fall in asset prices remains severe”.

These are tough times for all major economies. But you could be forgiven for thinking Britain is faring much worse than most.

Since we voted to leave the European Union, six years ago last week, it’s become an article of faith among some – much of the civil service and almost all mainstream broadcasters, for instance – that the UK has seriously underperformed. Trade has collapsed, investment has dried up and growth has lagged behind the rest of Europe, we’re so often told.

The reality is rather different. Since the Brexit referendum, the “immediate and profound economic shock,” which HM Treasury consistently warned would follow any leave vote, didn’t happen. On the contrary, growth continued.

Over the last six years, in fact, including the troughs and peaks of lockdown, UK GDP has expanded at an accumulated rate of 6.8pc, more than France (6.2pc), Germany (5.5pc) and Italy (2.1pc).

Ha ha MichaelC.

Well thats that then. Tell you what you get on with yours and I'll try to get on with mine. Maybe if you could just keep your advice to yourself.

According to the Express, an absolutely responsible and fair rag with a reputation almost on a par with the Sun, Mail & Telegraph, Betfred have reduced the odds on UK rejoining the EU by 2026 from 12/1 to 7/1. Apparently they base it on the Sein Fein success in the recent NI elaction. Wonder what the odds will be when Scotland removes itself from the control of this toxic Govt.

So complain as much as you like, brexit is done and won't be changing.

Please explain why?

The UK would have to reapply and there is no precedent for rejoining so no historic pre-conditions.

UK would have to change currency to the euro and no party is going to agree to that. This is a fairly new condition and Denmark hasn't done so due to the same opt out UK had which will not exist in the future.

There would be no rebate on the contributions.

There are several EU countries that would veto UK application and it needs to be unanimous.

The EU also requires proof that citizens wish to join the EU and would require a 60 to 65% agreement for about 3 years before even allowing the application. Doubt if that'll happen.

Maybe in 20 or 30 years time but who knows how the world will change. I'll be long gone by then.

There are several statements here that have merit but, 49 years ago the UK joined Europe and from that moment a campaign to leave started. Their patience, coupled with mistruths and a manipulation of the the media prevailed 43 later. It’s never too soon to start the joining process once again. Perhaps by then the UK populace May proved itself trustworthy, grateful and reliable. Foreign perception of us is that, with this leadership, we really are a despicable bunch

Getting rid of this useless govt soon would be positive step forward.

When did the Guardian become highly reputable? Must be a very recent development!

Typical "shoot the messenger" response to an interesting and insightful article.

Thank you Darro.
I get so fed up with posting constructive posts to sensible discussions, only to get stupid replies from idiots. Pleased to get a supportive post, thank you.
