Update from MSE

Postby TonTri » Wed Jan 16, 2019 9:02 am

I received this in my weekly email from Moneysavingexpert and as far as I'm concerned it puts all the scaremongering to bed. Hopefully it will reassure a few on here.

Can’t see how this is reassuring when there’s a highlighted caveat at the top of the article

Warning – some of this guide is based on intelligent guesswork...We've tried to give you accurate and impartial information, but this is a fast-moving situation, where much is still unknown. So this is what's likely to happen based on what we do know so far – it's not set in stone. We'll update this guide regularly as Brexit approaches

Ton Tri, i really like Martin Lewis & his team but as he states himself, they are guessing what will happen, ok they may have more idea than most of us about what will or won't be but at the end of the day, absolutely no-one can say what the outcome of Brexit will be, more so i would suggest after last nights events.
If his comments help you sleep easier at night then that can only be good :D

True no=one can categorically state what's going to happen, that much is obvious, but it gives me comfort seeing as the article was updated last night after the vote and also that as stated
"In this guide we give you the facts where there are facts – and MSE founder Martin Lewis' risk analysis where there aren't" and I trust Martyn Lewis' analysis over that any of our politicians.

Here are the facts.

No one 100% knows the outcome, other than it will have some financial impact *which it's already doing.

Martin Lewis, is a 'light entertainment' reporter who did a 'saving money' slot on a morning TV show. It proved popular and cleverly (probably with his manager) came up with the 'money saving expert' website.

Ironically he is not an expert in the field of money, but due to his researchers, can tell you the cheapest credit card or ways of helping the average person (who is too lazy to do their own homework/research, some good money saving tips).

Is he an expert? NO, he is not and really someone like this giving an opinion is fine, but I wouldn't put any more belief in this, than anyone else's opinion - as that's what it is, not fact - again his researchers cobbled some info together for his website, where he takes a % of the inbound business.

He's done very well for a light entertainment reporter, that in real terms knows FA about real money - but people like him (he's a friendly chap that comes across well on TV) a man of the people, useful for some general money saving tips, but guidance for the Brexit, no - that we'll find out as and when it unravels.
