I say again, you just cannot compare the UK with Norway, we are a much bigger fish and hence we are in a very strong negotiating position. A 66,000,000,000 pound trade deficit says so.

Our trade with the EU is just 8% of their total trade. True, some German car manufacturers and French wine producers might kick off but, if we get a deal that gives access to the single market but that doesn't include free movement, we are getting a deal that's better than the deal that any member state gets. It will mean other states will want the same deal and it will mean the end of the EU. Turkeys are not going to vote for Christmas (well intelligent ones anyway) for the sake of that 8%. We might get some more minor concessions, over and above what Norway gets, but we won't get access to the single market without accepting free movement.

I have to say, I agree with Mickey Braw on this one. I wasn't for leaving the EU mainly because at my age it's all I have ever known, being part of a bigger community seemed to give comfort of being in it all together, but at what cost?

What are we to do though, have a referendum on a referendum or maybe just decide again by playing Rocks, Paper, Scissors?

Brexit is going to happen, so the sooner people get their heads around it and all push in the right direction the better!

What always makes me grin is this ALL pull together, who are the ALL? The many billionaires, the host of multi millionaires, the chap on the dole, the woman with three kids who just about keeps her head above water, the disabled, especially those under 35 who have seen their benefits chopped and all the other folks who are struggling to pay their way through the severe social security cuts, so the well off and can avoid taxes.

It's a phrase that means nothing, nothing whatsoever, just like the so called "Getting our country back" whatever does that mean !! Close the borders, yeah right and see Britain sink slowly down the tube. It's all barmy rhetoric that got votes but that is all it was, vote catching phrases that people fell hook, line and sinker for and the best of all was the lie about the NHS and £350 million pounds to be saved from the EU and spent on the NHS. Total crap but people love that kind of blind hope.

Britain will pay out massively on solicitors, accountants and experts costs to unravel the 40 odd years of trade agreements and then try to work out new agreements in less than two years (that just is not going to happen) with the EU, who have no doubt, will play hardball and if for nothing else, they cannot give the UK anything more than the rest of the EU get, in fact the Britain will be in a pretty poor position come the actual day of Brexit but do carry on dreaming that we are so powerful we can demand anything and get it and not pay for it any more than those within the EU.

All I see is Brexiteers saying the EU is finished as we are leaving, sorry that is just a sad dream with crazy hope that it might happen, well it isn't going to. The UK leaving the EU will hurt the UK and badly.Wait as see just how we will have to beg for morsels of the massive EU pot, sure we are big importers but the EU will carry on fine without us being members.

Totally agree Terence, other than the fact that I don't actually think we'll be daft enough to commit economic suicide. My personal view is that we'll go through the motions and "leave" in name only. Some deal will be hammered out that makes it look like the Brexiters have achieved some of their goals, when in essence, very little will have changed.
That's my hope anyway.

Hi Bill,
That *post has been removed - It did not appear to be quoting any particular person but it is still not acceptable to say any group of voters are racist.

*If there is a post that any of our members find unacceptable in any way please use the report button beside any post, that way we will always see it and remove it if we agree it is not suitable for this forum. We are a fast moving website and that is great as we have so much good information on here but occasionally a post may be missed by the moderators and we appreciate our members keeping us informed.

:text-thankyouyellow:

This is still an interesting topic and we do try not to be too hasty locking a topic these days, as we often get complaints, so for the moment we will keep it 'live' but please stay friendly everyone or we may have to lock it. However as with all these EU topics they will sprout up again and again until the situation is resolved...sometime...maybe.. never!
