What is the Algorfa area like - Any shops in walking distance?

Looking at all the different areas as we search for long term rental properties but only really familiar with Quesada - are there areas to avoid? Is Algorfa nice? We will have a car but would like to be able to be within walking distance of shops? :text-thankyouyellow:

My friend lives there but you would need to live in the town centre to be able to walk to shops and bars. It's a bit out the way to be honest.

Depends what you are looking for, to know if Algorfa is ideal for you. Do you want to live among the Spanish people and like noisy fiestas?

When we lived nearby, we found the town square and atmosphere really nice, with a typical Spanish village feel. While you may be able to walk to shops if you live in the town, the last time I was there the choice of shops and restaurants was limited, certainly nowhere near what Quesada offers. It is a fair bit further from the coast than Quesada. I am not certain, maybe someone can confirm, but I think the number of ex-pats in the town centre is very small.

The Montemar urbanisation is about 1½ miles down the road from Algorfa and property is generally good value because of its location.

Algorfa is indeed a lovely small Spanish town, facilities as regard to shops and night life are somewhat limited, but of course this maybe part of the appeal to some folk. One word of caution, be very careful which agent you deal with, I can tell you from bitter personal experience, that one so called estate agent located there, is not honest, in fact owes my family 1000s of Euros. Without going into details, and naming names, I would hate for any other people (particularly a pensioner such as myself) to fall victim of their sharp practice. Very best of luck in your search, but perhaps you might be a little safer to stick to Quesada. This site alone has quoted many satisfied buyers and renters.

I am disappointed with these replies, I have a property in Algorfa where we are for 6 months of the year. It is a very Spanish town which is its appeal. There are plenty of shops in walking distance if you want some bits, 2 Spanish grocery shops one with an excellent butchers, 2 fruit and veg shops, an english Alldays should you pine for something, opticians, florist, large electrical shop, Mailpoint a pet shop and I may have missed a few. A beautiful town square with 4 cafe/bars around, completely traffic free and fantastic place to sit, a tea and cake shop, pharmacy, hairdressers......... It has its own large sports complex with 2 outdoor pools, paddle courts, football pitches and another bar/cafe next to a childrens play area. There are also bars and excellent restaurants up the streets leading away from the square, for example La Ermita. You certainly should not judge a place on someone's experience with an estate agent. This is Spain, wouldn't you want to live among the Spanish? Oh and I have lots of expat friends who also live in Algorfa, it is a very friendly community with a brilliant mix. the noisy fiestas????? Once a year.

I just wanted to clarify that my post was not intended to be anti Spanish or anti Algorfa. We have always found tthe Spanish very helpful and friendly, and is part of the reason we want to move to Spain.

Indeed living in a smallish charming Spanish town definitely has its appeal. It is one of many different lifestyle choices available in Spain.

Hi all, it never was my intention to try and deter anybody from living in Algorfa, I know the town quite well and have very good friends who live close by, I agree it is indeed a lovely little Spanish town, with a lot to commend it. My experience with one dishonest agent should not put anybody else off wanting to live there. My sole motivation in posting my message was simply to advise caution on who you choose to deal. I repeat, I would hate to see anyone else lose money, regardless of where they choose to buy or rent.

Well you should name and shame the estate agent or a least give its location in the village,safer that way,so no one else will be parted from there hard earned cash
