Local Fiestas in 2012

Local Spanish Fiestas
We managed to get these 'sketchy' details from Quesada Town Hall in April and were advised that all festival dates and further details will be available from Quesada & Rojales Town Halls at least one week before each festival.

On the 06/06/12 some of the following was updated from information provided by our friend Ozzymandius:

Rojales - Moors & Christians Festival Events - June to July 2012 (See below for events & procession dates)

Quesada
Fiesta with Parade - 3rd, 4th & 5th August


Rojales - Start of the fiestas is October 7th.

Guardamar - Festival 28th & 29th July

If anyone obtains further details please let me know & I will update this topic. Thank you.

With thanks to Ozzymandius for passing on the following calendar of events for the Summer Rojales festival June/July 2012 :


June 23rd to July 11th 2012

SATURDAY, 23RD JUNE
At 11:00 a.m. In the Capitol Theatre, end of the year’s festival of the
municipal nursery school “Los Pasos”.
At 8:30 p.m. Flower offerings in honour of San Pedro. Departure from
Rojales Health Centre.
At 10:00 p.m. Rise of the”Cabezo Soler” Hill. “La Encantá” Magical
Night. Organised by the Department for Youth of Rojales Town Hall.
Departure from Plaza “El Soto” (opposite Mercadona)
At 11:30 p.m. “Barraca Popular” on the Contrabandistas association
grounds. Organised by the Contrabandistas association in collaboration
with Rojales Town Hall.
SUNDAY, 24TH JUNE
At 9:00 p.m. On the “Malecón del Soto” promenade, end of the year’s
festival of the Municipal School of Dancing.
At 10:00 p.m. Closing Ceremony of the 2nd “Shops on the Street” Fair.
MONDAY, 25TH JUNE
At 6:00 p.m. In the Capitol Theatre, Graduation Ceremony of the Year
2011/2012 of “La Encantá” High School of Rojales.
WEDNESDAY, 27TH JUNE
At 8:00 p.m. From the Rojales Health Centre to the Plaza de España,
gunpowder parade.
At 9:30 p.m. Gunpowder Battle, speeches and the taking of the castle. The
speeches will be given by the “Almohades” and “Contrabandistas”.
Once the event is over, dancing in the kábilas (open-air dance grounds).
THURSDAY, 28 JUNE
At 10:30 p.m. CHARANGA (Summer Carnival Parade) with the
participation of all the Moors and Christians Associations. They will parade
in the following order: Almohades, Bereberes, Tuareg, Piratas, Benakíes
and Contrabandistas.
Once the parade is over, dancing in the kábilas.
FRIDAY, 29TH JUNE
Giants and large heads parading round the streets all day,
accompanied by the dulzaina (little clarinet) and drum.
At 9:00 a.m. The Band of “La Lira” parading round the streets.
On its route, tribute to senior citizens organised by the moors
association “Almohades”. All the Moors and Christians Associations are
invited to take part.
At 11:00 a.m. On the “Malecón del Soto” promenade, children’s games,
handicrafts, origami with balloons and painting faces with the “Chupa-
Chups” group (Elia & Georgina)
At 8:00 p.m. Holy Mass in honour of San Pedro, attended by the
Authorities, Queens of Fiestas, Captains and Flag Bearers.
At 9:00 p.m. Solemn procession in honour of San Pedro. At the end of
the procession, a magnificent firework display will be given by Pirotecnia
Ferrández from Redován.
Once the fireworks are over, dancing in the kábilas.
SATURDAY, 30TH JUNE
At 9:00 p.m. GREAT PARADE OF MOORS AND CHRISTIANS.
They will parade with the following order: Contrabandistas (Captains),
Piratas, Almohades, Bereberes, Tuareg and Benakíes.
Once the parade is over, dancing in the kábilas.
SUNDAY, 1ST JULY
At 7:30 p.m. PARADE OF THE BANDS
At 9:00 p.m. GREAT PARADE OF MOORS AND CHRISTIANS.
They will parade with the following order: Almohades, Bereberes, Tuareg,
Benakíes, Contrabandistas and Piratas.
The floats of the Queens of Fiestas will close the parade.
Following this, dancing in the Kábilas.
TUESDAY, 3RD JULY
At 9:00 p.m. In the Municipal Sports Centre, beginning of the 28th Fivea-
side football Championship “Villa de Rojales” 2012, organised by the
Department for Sports of Rojales Town Hall.
FRIDAY, 6TH JULY
At 9:30 p.m. In the Capitol Theatre, 1st Theatre Festival by the pupils of
the Municipal Theatre School “Alberto González Vergel”.
SATURDAY, 7TH JULY
At 9:30 p.m. In the Capitol Theatre, Dancing Festival by the Dance
Academy “Zoraida Cases”.
WEDNESDAY, 11TH JULY
At 9:30 p.m. In the Capitol Thetre, 2nd Theatre Festival by the pupils of
the Municipal Theatre School “Alberto González Vergel”. This event will
bring the Year 2011/2012 to a close.

I wouldn't be surprised Mike - It was an amazing paella last year! However, as you can gather from another of my postings I don't like seeing snails on Paella and the ones in the Quesada fest were large and stripey :o :lol: ...but the Spanish seem to love them and I expect they are a delicacy to them.

Went to the Benijofar Parade on Saturday.Was a bit of a mis-mash of traditional Moors & Christians, followed by some very strange acts. Fair play, lots of effort was put in from a very smalll town, with some very nice costumes and very loud music.

Next weekend is the Guardamar M & C parade, and we think one of the best around. Sunday night will be a spectacle if it follows previous years. Snails are available on request at several bars if required
