It says on the Gov web site they are not accepted presumably so it’s not a cost to the nhs.

Which website is that? I can't see where it says they are not accepted, just that they are not available on the NHS for the purpose of travel.

I am flying out 4th Dec..I looked into this in depth and apart from the fact that you have to tick a box to say that you have one of the symptoms ..having seen a NHS result confirmation which my daughter received it is definately not meeting the criteria for the Spanish authorities.. apparently it has to state a PCR test ..also the date and time it was taken..your identification number which you use when travelling..IE..your passport number and lab recognised accreditation..I have just ordered my kit .£99.00 from Axiom laboratories..they were the cheapest I could find who provide the fit to fly certificate available for download to print or save to your phone .also it states on the Spanish site that emails or text messages will not be accepted..think that is because they can easily be altered to suit ..the private companies email the results but include an attached document which needs to be opened and downloaded and cannot be altered in any way.

I would be interested to find out how you got on. I'm not due to travel until mid January and just in the planning process myself. Thanks in advance.

We flew from Manchester.our test certificate had to be shown at check in and again at the boarding gate...so I presume anyone without the correct paperwork would not have been allowed to fly...I asked the lady checking ours if a NHS test result would be accepted and she said a definate no..has to be a private test with all the information that the Spanish authorities are requesting..

:this below is taken from the email I got from the Spanish authorities after I filled in the Spanish travel health form .
REMEMBER that you must bring
your certificate of negative result of the RT-PCR test for COVID19, carried out in the 72 hours prior to the trip, which may be required upon entering Spain by the health passport or ID number, date of the test, identification and contact information of the center that performs the analysis, technique employee and negative test result. The personal identification number (passport / DNI) that you use to perform the QR must be the same as the one that appears on the negative PCR certificate.

That's great information Eileen. Did you use Axiom in the end? how was your experience? Fortunately their lab is just down the road from me so I can deliver our swabs there personally. Hope you have a great time out there.

As from tomorrow, Spain will also allow a TMA - Transcription Mediated Amplification Test - or the PCR to be allowed into Spain.
The TMA test is provided by a company called Grifols and will cost about the same as the PCR test but I can't find any company in UK that does it prior to travel even though the company has a base in Cambridge. It will still be required 72 hours before travel with the same details as the PCR test.
It's also reported in the papers that children under 6 will no longer require the test and that the test result can now be in French as well as English and Spanish. If it is in any other language, an officially certified translation can be accepted alongside the certificate.
I assume a new BOE will be issued tomorrow so I'll keep an eye out for it.

BOE A 2020 15878 issued today modifies the testing requirement against Covid-19 for travellers entering Spain by air or sea.
Apart from the type of test collected in the mentioned sections of the Resolution of November 11, of the General Directorate of Public Health, that is, the PCR (RT-PCR of COVID-19), there are other molecular techniques for detecting viral RNA with an equivalent reliability for the detection of SARS-CoV-2, such as Transcription-Mediated Amplification tests (hereinafter, TMA), which should also be considered valid options for controlling the epidemic with respect to people who travel to our country, which is precisely the objective of this resolution.
It is also considered advisable to exempt persons under 6 years of age from the control measures stated.
It is also considered convenient that, in addition ot English and Spanish, it may be written in French or German.
The resolutions are, therefore, as follows:
1. The PCR test (RT-PCR), the TMA and other tests based on equivalent molecular techniques will be accepted for entry into Spain by air or sea with a negative result for SARS-COV-2
2. People under six years of age will not be required to carry out the tests referred to above.
3. The document certifying the negative Active Infection Diagnostic Test must be written in Spanish, English, French or German. If it is not possible to obtain it in these languages, the supporting document must be accompanied by a translation into Spanish, carried out by an official body.

There is a bit more here by way of warning and following on from Eileen's post about producing the Cert at Check-in. If you don't have the test Cert or it is more than 72hrs old you will not be permitted to board at your UK airport. Also she says the authorities in Spain (who are they? Policia?) can request to see the Cert at any time during your stay and you must carry it on your person. Don't know whether that is just the Canaries or if it applies to mainland Sain also.
